(I'm aware that I'm probably the only 5punker who still plays Eve regularly, but humour me
Long before the opening shots of the Great War, back when our very own ISS alliance was getting torn apart by IAC (3 years ago now), there was this thing called System Sovreignty in nullsec space that required fixed starbases (POS) to be anchored, fuelled and then pounded to dust by enemy dreadnaughts in what was increasingly becoming a boring grind. Not a lot has changed since then and furethermore, all the big space holding alliances have become terribly boring homogenous blobs of sameness. Conquest is an endless repetitioni of Put Up POS, Fuel POS, Shoot POS, Repeat.
Insert Long Dev Blog on how it's all changing (Linky for those who have accounts still, worth a read)
TL;DR Diminion will bring:
* A simple, descriptive sovereignty system not tied to POS's in any way
* A separate mechanism for governing outpost conquest
* A way to increase the resource density of your space, reducing the dependence on a very small number of extremely valuable resources and spreading the love.
* A reduction in the value of moon minerals, which have got all out of whack because the mechanism introduced to reduce the value last time was based on a flawed model due to an undetected 4 year old exploit - way to go CCP!
* An upkeep system for the space you hold and develop (exponential cost for each new system you control)
This could certainly make life different. I won't say interesting, because it's still spreadsheets in space and you have to be a special sort of person to be entertained by it :D
