...is the name next year's winter expansion and from the tone of the dev blogs there are going to be some massive changes inbound.

(I'm aware that I'm probably the only 5punker who still plays Eve regularly, but humour me :P)

Long before the opening shots of the Great War, back when our very own ISS alliance was getting torn apart by IAC (3 years ago now), there was this thing called System Sovreignty in nullsec space that required fixed starbases (POS) to be anchored, fuelled and then pounded to dust by enemy dreadnaughts in what was increasingly becoming a boring grind. Not a lot has changed since then and furethermore, all the big space holding alliances have become terribly boring homogenous blobs of sameness. Conquest is an endless repetitioni of Put Up POS, Fuel POS, Shoot POS, Repeat.

Insert Long Dev Blog on how it's all changing
(Linky for those who have accounts still, worth a read)

TL;DR Diminion will bring:

* A simple, descriptive sovereignty system not tied to POS's in any way
* A separate mechanism for governing outpost conquest
* A way to increase the resource density of your space, reducing the dependence on a very small number of extremely valuable resources and spreading the love.
* A reduction in the value of moon minerals, which have got all out of whack because the mechanism introduced to reduce the value last time was based on a flawed model due to an undetected 4 year old exploit - way to go CCP!
* An upkeep system for the space you hold and develop (exponential cost for each new system you control)

This could certainly make life different. I won't say interesting, because it's still spreadsheets in space and you have to be a special sort of person to be entertained by it :D

There will be, it's just not the subject of this particular dev blog and the empire additions won't be such a radical change to the game mechanics, hence less contentious and not requiring a dev blog. There's a whole paragraph in that blog saying how 0.0 only makes up a minority of players anyway.

I'm not really into Eve (something about not actually "flying" the spaceships puts me off, that and the tutorial) but I did read in this months PCGs "The Spy" that CCP had trademarked "Dust 514" and a remarkably similar logo (looks like a space marine helmet on the Eve logo) but I guess you spreadsheet fans already knew that?

You know, while I was on the bog this morning, I was just thinking of how fun it was flying blaster rax's around belts in 0.0 and nobbling stuff up.

I've had a long break, but it's getting tempting again, especially with reading about fixing the 0.0 sov stuff so it's not longer castles in space.
