For Beards?

Post by Joose »

Ive just glanced at my games shelf, and noticed that I have my girlfriends copy of Never Winter Nights. Does anyone else have this? If enough of us do have it, anyone fancy some +3 Beard of Stroking action?

We played a few "Adventures" of it at uni, it were a right laugh, what with my Monk of Doom, my friends pet Badger and my other friend constantly pissing off the locals with his very presence (His mage character was alternately called Colin the Dispised, or Colin the Masterthief. "Col, why are you running around picking up stuff whilst the rest of us are getting buggered by a giant bear?""Im...er...tidying up.")

Anyway, tis a good laugh, anyone interested?

/strokes beard.

PS:I have included a WERD to both options, so dejects mum wont feel left out either way :)

I have it (and two expansions) and have completed roughly 0.4 of them.

I find the camera (and general moving about) controls to be hugely clunky and annoying after having played games like WoW and GuildWars.

I also didn't like it when they removed the character picture that looked like Angelina Jolie in "Girl, Interrupted".

However it would be nice to play with someone sensible - the only time I attempted to play online with it, all the servers were filled with utter pricks: either running off ahead/away or nicking all the loot. Presumably they're all thieves in WoW, now.

I wasn't very good at it though. I had to kill a baby dragon once, and it basically consisted of me getting one or two hits in, then warping back to the town. About 150 times.

For those with extra smelly beards +1, there is of course the option to be Dungeon Master - but I guess you'd want someone who really knew what they were doing before exploring that option.

really? I found a combination of the keyboard controlls and the mouse to be the best controll method I have so far used in an RPG.

You can add your own character portraits. Problem Solved.

The group is all important in D&D. A group full of pricks is worse than no group at all. And Solo'ing leaves you with too many things you just cant do. (such as taking on dragons without resorting to silly tactics.) It really is all about teamwork. For instance, there was a bit in a game we played at uni involving a Dire Bear. If he had taken it on individually, it would have creamed us. So my Paladin acted as bait, putting in the occasional hit to keep its interest, then running like a mother fucker. The priest kept me alive with healing spells. The mage and the ranger pelted the bear with arrows and magics. Dead bear.

We tried this once. Once.

It is....less than good.

EDIT: Since we have sufficient interest, shall I go ahead and 5chedule a game? Just as a trial run, like? Also, and preferance for date/time?

It was the best at the time, and is still good - I just find right-click camera moving more "instinctive" than MMB(ie: wheel)-clicking or using the keyboard

Hooray, here's she is, top left (1).

All about balance, I've heard. Fortunately all my characters are very well balanced, being utterly crap at everything.

I think the character I got furthest with was a druid, propbaly mainly so I could send my pet to get creamed while I legged it.

Go for it!

(1) also featuring: (at least in my imagination)
Anne Robinson, Emma Thompson, Lucy Liu, Sophie Aldred, Jordan, Lisa Riley, Thora Birch, Joanna Lumley, Annabel Croft, Cornelia Frances, Mutya Buena and Paul O'Grady.

I have this, plus both expansions (easy enough to get off the floor if you need them) and some mods from the very alive modding community that add even more expansiveness. There even a fully fledged character creator if you want to jump into the higher levels with a +15 stripey badger of doooooom.

I have played through about 2/3 of the whole thing with a mate, but that was while back now. Never tried DM'ing cos it takes a lot of preparation...

I'd be up for a game. For a while. Gets quite hacky slashy after a bit though. NWN2 out soon so I see...

I didn't think it would work very well. Plus I would be the worst Dungeon Master ever:

- You try to pick the lock of the chest
- You spring a trap, which pisses acid all over your hands. All your party's hands.
- All your hands dissolve. You can no longer use: weapons, items, magic
- Ten Red Dragons burst unfeasibly from the small chest. Rar! (x10)
- SuperheroDungeonMaster appears and kills all the Dragons
- SuperheroDungeonMaster kills all your party members
- Your party is dead
- SuperheroDungeonMaster wins! Hurrah!

Yarrr! :ahoy:

http://thepiratebay.org/search.php?q=neverwinter - I got the platinum edition.

Auto updates to 1.66

Go here for stuff: http://nwvault.ign.com/

Specifically you should get CEP 1.52 http://nwvault.ign.com/fms/Download.php?id=55471 which adds lots of content. And this little in-game module that lets you make your character up to whatever level needed for the game (so you can start in the middle if you want to: http://nwvault.ign.com/fms/Download.php?id=41693

There's loads of haks and modules out there. Some good, some bad some truly aweful. I've selected a few that I think might be better for multiplayer. I also notice now that there are some persistant, random worlds that might be fun for a bit of online play if someone is willing to host them.

Any takers?

I'd be interested, but in the true style of D&D, all players must behave like their character on teamspeak. Now let's see how many of you pick female characters!
