Graphics Card (again)

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Graphics Card (again)

Post by The Incredible... »

Just got the sapphire ati radeon x1950 pro agp gubbins card

it has 2 molex connectors, presumably this means both need to be connected to the power supply

if so what is the correct way to connect it up

the instruction manual is a bit vague

If there's a male and a female it could just be so that you don't lose the use of one of your molexes. Never seen that before though so I couldn't be sure (although my 7900 GT has one molex connection).

:above: this, and don't use a power splitter to turn one plug into two. that's just a bad idea. use two completely separate plugs.

or better: use 2 completely separate cable runs from the PSU. (this is ideal, but not really necessary or possible in some cases)

Before you plug it in please check it properly.
If one is a molex connector and one is a PCI-Express power connector DO NOT plug both in. Check check check, i have seen cards that have been killed in this way.

If they are both identical connectors, then it probably does need both but best to check it anyway.

Give us some feedback once you have it up and running, I'd like to know how well the latest games perfom with the card on your setup

I know it isn't, but "molex" sounds ever so rude. It's like a portmanteau of all my favourite words.
