I was all ready to be impressed with PlayNC after seeing their speed of response, then I read the reply:
Thank you for contacting us with your question.

It is not possible to transfer an account from the European servers to the US servers. If you would like to play on the US servers you will need to purchase US copy of the game you are interested in.

Playing with the European version of City of Heroes will give you European friendly maintenance times, European events, and also a fresh choice of character names. Moreover, due to the time difference between Europe and the US you may find playing on the US servers rather less entertaining (less players in the zones at the time you are connected, etc.).

We hope this answers your question but if you have any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Regards,
The European City of Heroes Support Team
Billing Department
Doesn't appear she actually read my question, that stated I bought the game to play with friends and then found they were all on the US server. My interest won't last until my first subscription payment with just randoms, so maybe pointing that out will make her re-read my question.

Start the email with 'MOTHER FUCKER WE GOT GUNS'. She should read the rest then. Possibly.

You could hit on her though.

Berk, Sheriff - shall we switch over? We'll just have to make sure we isolate Sheriff from any Spaniards.

Transferring from US to EU

Seems simple but one large problem - we'd lose all our influence and SG stuff :(

Well that's weird - although I didn't ask for a character transferral, they were very helpful and polite to me. I couched the initial contact with the remote suggestion that I had bought the EU version in error, not realising I needed the US one to play with my friends - hinting that it was kind of their fault that I was unable to do this, as it wasn't clear on the box. If you think it will be useful I can try and find my email to them, although I'm relatively sure it was the US team I contacted, figuring they would be more likely to want to help, as I was offering them the future business, not trying to move away from them.

Maybe the problem was that I contacted the UK team - if they're seperate organisations then me moving to the US version would lose them money, so they might as well risk pissing me off. I'll wait and see if there's a 5punky migration to Europe before I burn any bridges though.

Okays, although there' almost a year's worth of play gone into some people's stuff on the US server, it'd be a pity if they had to lose it, although I agree we should have just gone EU in the first place.

Here are my City of Villians details

PlayNC master account Name: sirfil
Your Real Name: Tycho Brahe
20-digit serial code that you used: XXX
European Game Account name you created/activated: sirfil

I have signed for the monthly payment scheme - do I have to deactivate this and re-sign with the new code? I also have a City of Heroes trial code XXX which I have not entered yet, will this be invalid now?

Many thanks for your assistance in this.
FatherJack

Thank you once again,

Customer (FatherJack) - 02/21/2006 07:11 AM
I recently purchased the EU version of City of Villains, unaware that
the servers were different from the US version where all my friends are
already playing, is it possible to be re-issued a US key so that I can
create a new character on their server?

My login is sirfil, the account id is arse-feck-feckity-arse-5

Many thanks,
FatherJack

I've a few options then; first I'll try and poke EU into moving me. If that fails I'll try and poke US into moving me. If that fails I'll buy the US version next month (which costs the same as my subscription anyway).

Consumer power yields results! I replied saying that I thought it was unfair to have to buy another copy of the same game, that I had stated my reasons for wanting to be on the US server, and that as I had no desire to play with randoms on the EU server I'd have to reconsider playing the game.
They came back offering me a "ONE TIME" (exactly how they wrote it) offer of a refund of my EU account so that I can purchase a US account.

Despite the initial reluctance, I'm still quite impressed with the speed at which they get these things done.
