Was it already taken as a 2142 name, or was it the BF2 account name which was taken? That was my problem.

ME!
Fecking EA...
This
The error message is wrong, I did it several times and it said: "BF2 Soldier Name already used by another player" it actually means that the name I wanted for 2142 was already taken, EA retards.

Ah well, this finally worked for me just now, however, not as Lat. In BF2142, I will be know as Aenima. Its my right as a <strike>wo</strike>man. Its following the same theme as my normal name at least!

Yeah, It hadn't even reserved my name, unless the veteran thing will only work with the retail version.

Nope, that would be to useful and not EA's style.
Mine worked okay and showed up when I first logged in to 2142 using my EA account.

Glad to hear it. I was worried that I hadn't got it myself, especially as you don't get an kind of confirmation.

How do you know if you've got it? As I should be a veteran but havn't noticed anything saying this?
