An RTS for a RTS n00b
So Company of Heroes has wetted my appetite for a bit of RTS but it's not got offline at the moment. Which would be a good one for someone who hasn't played properly since before Red Alert? Preferrably not too complicated or in a fantasy setting but I could probably cope if the best one is Warcraft 3 or something. Also has to be good offline.

I tend to prefer full 3D ones now, rather than the WarCraft3-style fixed isometric view.
Empire Earth II was quite fun, and since I utterly suck at them, it is good to be able to meddle with the timelines and have my nuclear strikes and big stompy robots up against the CPU's spear-chucking cave-dwellers.
The Microsoft ones are generally good, too and Rome: Scrotal War is good but a bit fiddly - but my favourites are the console ones like Crusaders and Kessen.

this actualy, i was amazed at how fast i got into it. must have a go again soon. i thought i was amazingly tallented at it, till i went online and got bombarded with 'omfg noob! why r u building defences?!!? build tanks ffs! omfg u need more buildings. i cnt play with this noob!' *l33t kid leaves your team*deject wrote:generals/zero hour is really simple to learn. It relies on the standard "get money, build shit, kill other guy" method.
still though, single player was fun
I'd recommend any of the C&C series. All have their good and bad points. Personally I think Generals is one of the worst appart from it is the best one to play mutliplayer. As easy as it is to EA bash, they took it from Westwood and fucked it up (it didn't even have any generals in it until the expansion pack - typical EA money grabbing tossers). It somehow just doesn't feel right. And they bastardised the storyline and the non-cgi videos were great post-generals. And Tanya was hot.
The RTS I am really waiting for now is this:
Supreme Commander
The day it is released I have one of my best mates I lived with at uni coming over for the day and nothing but this game planned. Oh and a visit to the Pub and some point.
