Personally I'm sick of Karkand and Sharqi, but am prepared to play them if other people want to, just not every three maps. Dalian and Daqing were in the demo and/or the loading screen, so a lot of people won't play them anymore, but I kind of miss them. Kubra Dam was probably the most fun I've had in a 5punk game, but it can get old fast with constant artillerying.
I've seen Karkand every other map be quite successful before. I think the idea is to give the people who hate helicoptors and planes raping them every 30 seconds a chance for a breather. I've taken a liking to Karkand after I discovered the wonders of an F2000GL + a supply crate on the roof of the building at Suburb :) My own constant artillery :boogie:

I don't mind how it goes, as long as the majority if not all the maps will be played, and not just a handful as that gets boring.

Yup, unfortunately, the problem with karkand is that it attracts a lot of idiots

This is true, which is one of the reasons i'm keen on mashtuur, it has choppers, but they're so nerfed it's painful.

I suspect we'll end up with a good sized mapcycle that changes every so often.

Also, how do people feel about some infantry only once 1.4 happens? I reckon it'd be a nice change on maps like sharqi and karkand where the terrain will allow for large battles without tanks raping your face.

It sounds good, you know how I feel about having my face raped.

How about clean sweep and wake as infantry only? :)

Failing that, I agree with Jack on all of what he said. Variety is key with maps IMO, cities get boring when you just play the same two maps all the time, and the object of a server is to enjoy it when we want, not to have it full all the time and say "OMFG our server is full how cool r us". That said, we'd still need 10 to start scoring.

At the end of the day, there'll always be people who like one map over another, which is why 24/7 wake servers manage to have people in them...

I haven't tried 1.4 myself yet, but I kind of see it as either:
1) a special game mode/map selection we turn on ad hoc, when we want to play it, or
2) treated as a separate map/map type and included in the rotation in addition to the map's normal modes

We could do it like you or berk say, and it'll no doubt be up for a vote, but I'm guessing there are still some non-idiots around who rather like those four maps in their original mode.

Yes, you and airos pick up on a point I was overlooking - we do need randoms to play this server so that any of us can jump on at any time, rather than waiting for 5cheduled matches where there will be enough of us to start a game.

I don't know how we balance it such that we get a decent crowd, who aren't scared away by idiots, other than trying to make sure an admin is on most of the time.

Also I'd tentatively propose a few guidelines for admins, to be agreed by all. Organised clans who play very well might annoy some of us if we're losing to them all the time, but on no account should they be kicked because of this. These are the type of players we want to attract - if slots need freeing up for 5punkers it should be made clear to people why they are being removed.

That's just an example, admins need some sort of handbook so they take action consistently, and people don't get kicked or banned without fair warning: either in-game or from the rules they see when attaching.

Karkand + Sharqi + Guest would probably result in the server getting plenty of people playing, though a bunch of them will be complete idiots. Dragon Valley and Gulf Of Oman seem to be quite popular maps as well, and they attract less idiots.

Fushe pass I like too, but I can never remember which is which. One is horizontal and the other vertical, but their names elude me.

Dragon Valley is the vertical one and Fushe Pass is the horizontal one.

5punk beef rules v0.1
  • Don't be a cupcake.
    Feel free to swear.
No Stat padding, Spawn Camping, TKing for vehicles (this includes the gunner hack)
If there's not the vehicle you want, take something else, don't queue.
Cartillery and bunnyhopping (especially as a medic) = ban.
5punk reserves the right to kick/ban for anything - ask in the forums if you get upset.
_____________________________________________________

Admin rules.

DO NOT WAVE YOUR ADMIN DICK UNLESS NEEDED.
  • Don't be a cupcake.
Warn people twice for being cunts (using bf2cc warn function)
If they continue, give them a ban to the end of the round (and screenshot their name if poss)
If people are statpadding - get screenshots and submit on www.bfroe.com
If there's multiple members of a clan breaking rules, kicking/banning them all is valid.
If you need to make room on the server for 5punkers, kick those with the lowest scores, whether they're a private or a 3-star general.
If someone asks for an admin, talk to them, often they want to complain about other players misbehaving.
If in doubt, ask other admins

Clans, and better players than us are more than welcome - invite them to visit the website.

Is infantry only mode just no armour/jet/attack choppers then, with cars, boats and blackhawks still in?

My suggestions earlier were only sarcastic, but in truth I would like to see Wake in there; its been ages since I've played it, and as part of a larger rotation its fine.

Also, the rules seem ok to me, nothing obviously out of place. However, would someone have to TK for a vehicle 3 times to get a ban then? I'd prefer a big red Instaban button for the fuckers that do it, but maybe a warning would be better.

To be honest I think everyone should get at least one warning, and probably 2, for any misbehaviour, then the Admin can decide wether to insta-ban if they re-offend (even if it's a different crime)

I know, I know, and as long as its not me TK'd it would be fine

What do you mean by BFCC tho? I know its a server tool, but is it the thing that pops up the green messages at the top as opposed to the in-game chat?
