Re: New Minecraft Server!
I have claimed the house closest the crops, there was nothing in it, and added two downstairs floors to it. I found some rubber trees near the spawn building, only one had a tapping spot so I chopped the other two down and have used the saplings to create two new ones near the crops in the village - no taps on them either but we should be able to get saplings off them to replant until we do.
Coralled a few sheep for wool.

Thanks Joose.
I reckon the lag is caused by Xycraft. But it's not that bad anyway, just takes a bit for the world to load around you.
Don't chop down those blue silverwood trees until you know how to benefit from them. It's more useful to keep them there to begin with. They're part of Thaumcraft, the magic mod.

Re: New Minecraft Server!
There's some kind of setting in the options to enable multi core loading (you have to disable something else though - I forget what but there's a tool tip that explains). I found this has massively helped with chunk loading with the even better occasional side effect of temporarily gouging massive swathes of the landscape out - great fun!spoodie wrote:Thanks Joose.

Re: New Minecraft Server!
well, I went into the nether and the server stopped responding. Trying to restart it from the admin page says that it cant. Ive logged a ticket. YAY unstable mods!
Re: New Minecraft Server!
I'm glad you went to the Nather before me then, so it's your fault. It's back now anyway.
Re: New Minecraft Server!
The portal next to my house takes me to Joose's portal in the nether, that's what I assume as there was already a tunnel there. And when I end up near Joose's house. Is that the way it's supposed to work?
Also the portal in the nether is at the top of the world, I don't know how we are to get down to any useful level. I've made a couple of tunnels and they have massive drops at the end.

Re: New Minecraft Server!
I've had that before when portals in the non nether end were too close together. I would have thought you were far enough away for that to not happen, but apparently not.

Re: New Minecraft Server!
I *think* the server is ok now. I may have to fiddle with IC2 a bit, as it is occasionally having a bit of a moment, but I don't think its anything world breaking.
On the note of worldbreaking, we had a megacrash yesterday apparently caused by a corrupt install of Forge. It all got sorted, but some of the stuff around the spawn went bye bye in the process. I don't know why exactly, but it was only the spawn chunk that reset, so I would advise people maybe steer clear of building too close to the spawn just in case.

Re: New Minecraft Server!
Both Anery and Pnut were complaining about lost items and builds. I suggest they ask for some replacement items cheated in.
And I'm happy to pay towards the hosting.

Re: New Minecraft Server!
Ive cheated in some of the missing stuff for Anery. Pnut, feel free to ask for things to be replaced (and no, I wont believe you if you say a full chest of diamonds
)
I certainly wont say no to hosting monies. I think there *might* be a way of contributing direct to the hosting but I've not had a chance to look at that properly yet. I shall do so now.

I think the link for contributing is here: SHOW ME THE MONEY!
I'm not sure though, so someone say if that does nothing.

Re: New Minecraft Server!
Donations seem to work, have some units of money.
Re: New Minecraft Server!
Yeah I missing a chest full of diamon....ah shit
It was just some ores and the front of the my house that went missing, not a big problem.

Re: New Minecraft Server!
Think I've lost pretty much anything that wasn't vanilla like fancy ores, uranium, crystals, copper bars, tin etc. Was mega crash world ending?
[edit]
Everything non-vanilla that wasn't on my person. Ouchies!

I had a fuck ton of stuff, I was just about to set out and lay the foundations (literally) for FBB (Fucking Big Base) and I lost it, thankfully diamonds were ok so I only threw a minor tantrum. Sadly this did also affect the scenery, which meant that all the marble was gone and with it a lot of my cart track - bit of a bigger tantrum, couple of teddies went - and the rubber trees I had carefully cultivated - screaming, rolling on the floor, punching, kicking "You're not my real server"...you get the gist.
Joose has restored my gems and my rubber tree saplings and all is well, many thanks Sir!
Also, I shall be donatings come payday.
Aaaand, I often try to connect and I get the "server is starting" error. Are these people turning it off when nobody is on it?
Re: New Minecraft Server!
They might, but doesn't seem likely. Is the server crashing? On last night and it died and kicked me, Pnut and FatherJack as well I think.Anery wrote:Aaaand, I often try to connect and I get the "server is starting" error. Are these people turning it off when nobody is on it?
Is the server running out of resources, RAM or network bandwidth?

Re: New Minecraft Server!
Good lord, what a headache. Ok, so:
The reason you sometimes see "server restarting" messages when you load it up is that it goes into a sleep mode when there's no one on it. It starts waking up at the first log in attempt, but that log in attempt will be unsuccessful. Give it ~30 secs then try again and you should be fine. Its a bit of a clunky system, but I cant see any way of turning it off, so
Pretty sure the crash last night was IC2 related. The server has gone a couple of times, both shouting about IC2. I was going to reinstall, but then noticed the direwolf pack had updated, so I grabbed the new version of the lot (apparently a lot of the updates are stability/performance stuff). I *think* its worked, although there are some warnings in the log about the world being made with an earlier version. They look like stock messages rather than anything specific to this situation though, and you can now log in once your client has updated. I would give it a bit more thorough test, but I need to werk.
Let me know if you notice any wierdness.
Oh, before I forget: I've noticed messages in the console when the server is starting saying something about building the spawn. It may be the reason stuff went away. Protip: Dont build in the spawn chunk.

Re: New Minecraft Server!
Do we think the village we've settled in is outside of the spawn chunk? I'm happy to up and leave if need be, but I like seeing other 5punkers on the server so it'd be a shame. When you get a chance Joose, do you think It'd be possible to get my items back?

Re: New Minecraft Server!
I suspect the village is inside the spawn chunk. If I remember right I could see it when I spawned.
On the other hand, I have since found multiple other villages, if you want one to relocate.
If I'm around tonight give me a poke and we can see about restoring items.

Re: New Minecraft Server!
Thankee Joose! I'm happy to relocate - if I can't get items back I'll have to start over anyway, so I've no problem opening up a new mine under my house.Joose wrote:I suspect the village is inside the spawn chunk. If I remember right I could see it when I spawned.
