New Minecraft Server!

Post by Joose »

Attack of the B-Team server:

85.236.100.199:29065

A new 5punky minecraft server has been established! Details:

Everything is set up and appears to be working. I settled on Direwolf in the end as there were many conflicting arguments as to what causes lag and what doesn't. I think if we find that some mod introduces a lot of lag we will just not use stuff from that mod.

One thing to note (which I think I mentioned before): This pack nerfs the shit out of EE. To the point that it practically disappears. It keeps the idea of using magic to turn one thing into a different thing, but its harder to do that and it has entirely dropped the overpowered stuff like magic rings, bonkers armour, redmatter tools and, most significantly, the condensers and whatnot that allowed you to generate infinite stuff from nothing. I think this will end up as a good thing, as it will horse us to use the other mods more. We wont just be able to go "fuck it, transmute a millions diamonds please".

World is created and ready to go. Come join me! The server is at nl-21.fragnet.net:27065. To get in you need Feed the Beast (which you can get from here) and within the launcher you need to select the Direwolf20 modpack. Its all pretty straightforward. There's a FtB wiki here for finding things to build and how to build them. Get to it! :excited:

Server: nl-21.fragnet.net:27065
Map: http://185.16.84.26:27066/

IP Address: 188.165.94.56:25565

Ive added people I can remember the usernames for to the whitelist, poke me if you are not allowed in.
Doggers has provided me with the backup from the old server, and its been plopped in, complete with a fresh new nether (the old one was borked to all hell).

The server costs are pretty reasonable, but if you want to donate I will  your :lemon: in a manly fashion. I think there is some way of doing that direct to the hosting site, but I've not fully figured it out yet. When I have I will tell you how here.

Holy crap Fab, you have been busy. It's a bit higher than the roof I intended but it means I can work on the proper roof easily now that all the water is held back. I'll try and get on later today.

Server unbuggered. I looked at the error logs in utter horror for a bit, then flattened it and reinstalled everything. I've put the backup of the game world from yesterday on there, so I doubt there's much lost.

Wow, I logged in briefly to see progress a few hours before it was reported down. All I did was remove red matter from my EE chest thing, that would have helped if anything. Then I flew over to your ship and new harbour fort, it struggled to load the chunks there. I don't know if that's relevant.

I think my death may have caused this somehow, I died and when I respawned at my little stone hut the world went bonkers.

Still no clue why the server died, but I have found out what may have been causing the slow chunk loading: Timers. Apparently, really low values on timers can bork things quite badly, which is probably why my boat was such a bad spot for this. I had two timers set to 0.2 seconds.

Can everyone check thier timers and make sure they are set to at least 1 second, preferably more? Ta!

The timer on my disco floor is probably lower than that, but I always leave it switched off, as any timers I use. I need to get one somehow on my energy machine as at the moment I just have a switch I flick on and off furiously.

I was on on Friday showing my nephew round (needed a bit of fast talking to explain the pink cock under the sea) on my Dad's PC and was crashing to the menu with Java errors every few seconds once I came through the exit portal up on the skyrail tracks. I had an up-to-date build of Tekkit, but Java might have been ancient. Not sure if that's a symptom or the cause, but I'll check Java gets updated next time.

FYI there's an impressive new technical mod pack in early release. Very similar to Tekkit, but with greater support from the mod authors. It's missing some essentials at the moment, EE and RedPower most significantly. I'm keeping an eye on it and will post when it's at a better stage. Interesting fact: The new version of Equivalent Exchange doesn't have dark/red matter, in fact it's not massively over-powered at all this time. Sad times for some I suppose.

I'm builiding us a Christmas tree at the moment - not too far from spawn. Hopefully it'll be a beautiful testament to the power of nature, joined seamlessly with the power of man and redstone. I've vowed not to set it on fire again after a wee mishap with my mining laser yesterday...
