buggered gfx card

buggered gfx card
last night i plugged my second monitor in while my computer was on and it broke my gfx card
any one know what went wrong?
(asus radeon 9600xt, second monitor via a digiatal to analog converter)

no sparks etc...
ducked under the desk to plug it in came up, wiped my mouth, and there was nowt on either screen
so i rebooted and it said, it talks to me on POST, how cool is that, "System failed due to CPU overclocking"
i know this not too be true as i've not fiddled in ages and it's at stock
another reboot and it said "vga test failed"
swapped in a beasty sis vigure PCI card and it booted fine
