Re: Google+
Blimey, that was a short beta. How's it holding up?

Just because Farmville & co. are shit you don't need to immediately stigmatize all FB app devs, we do the kind which are attached to a page, such as adding an RSS feed's data to your page or galleries for external media, as well as dynamic content for businesses, like restaurants. Apps on Facebook are nothing more and nothing less than an iframe for every tab, and that means that the 5punk forums itself could potentially qualify as an app.Grimmie wrote:Me either, but they do already have the iGoogle applications, so it's a possibility.
Besides, social apps make a fuckshitload of cash, and it's always nice to have another cow to milk.
There's really nothing wrong with the Facebook permissions as well, although the permission groups themselves might be too big and should be broken down into smaller parts, but Google did that pretty well on Android, so I wouldn't be worried. On Facebook, the problem isn't the permissions, it's really that most users don't read/don't give a fuck about what they give permission for, hell, if one of the permissions were that Mark Zuckerberg could personally kidnap you and attach another person's mouth to your anus and attach your mouth to another person's anus, I'm pretty sure a few thousand people would allow that too. Now, basically, the problem is the userbase and since Facebook is close to a good index of active internet users, well, Google+ won't be even a hint less shit.Stoat wrote:There are apparently mentions of Google Games in the codes, so I guess that stuff will appear at some point. So long as its permissions are handled better than Facebook has/does, it shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Google+
Apparently it's still possible to invite people, all you have to do is share a post with their gmail then when they sign in it will just 'let them in'
Re: Google+
Could we try that?
Re: Google+
I think that's what spoodie tried with bobbins and myself, El Goog stopped it working.Sol wrote:Apparently it's still possible to invite people, all you have to do is share a post with their gmail then when they sign in it will just 'let them in'

Re: Google+
Yeah I think I can invite people by popping in an email address.
Re: Google+
I'd love it if the people I actually talk to would use it
but they don't
and it's mostly dead
save for like one person
it's early days yet tho.

Re: Google+
It's getting better, I think. Also you need to seek out good stuff, not wait for it to fall in your virtual lap.

Re: Google+
I don't think I'll really start using it till:
a) All my friends use it, and
b) Facebook fuck something major up
Which is a shame, because I really want to like it.. It's just not there yet.

Re: Google+
The issue being, of course, that pretty much everyone is waiting for everyone else to start using it. From a design/tech point of view, I think it is better than facebook. Unfortunately, it suffers from not being facebook.Grimmie wrote:I don't think I'll really start using it till:

Re: Google+
I use it as much as I do Facebook. Which admittedly is to never post and only check it once a day. But its advantage over FB is that I don't get spammed with game requests and pointless updates from people who I wish I'd never added as a friend.
