Right or wrong is totally a subjective opinion in this case. Do I like it? No I don't, but my opinion doesn't outweigh the million who think it's OK or right.

As for the last point, it's a matter of how much something is worth. Games are being made to the LCD because it appeals to the most people. Again, basic supply & demand, when the entertainment you enjoy becomes a niche product, naturally it will cost you more since fewer people will buy it. I don't really like it but it's reality.

There is no simple catchphrase for the idiots to spam constantly, so I doubt it.

I'm going to attempt a manual override on this wall.

I hadn't noticed there was any DLC for Portal 2, unless they're moaning about the ARG stuff with the potatoes in other games. While that was fun, I didn't feel particularly compelled to buy the games I didn't have, though I do think Valve rather spoiled the in-game joke by doing it. I see there are hats and soforth for the co-op, but it's hardly intrusive.

DLC's not going away and I have mixed views on it. When I had money to spend, I wanted to know all about it and download every particle of content for games I loved. Now I don't, I'm more concerned that it doesn't bug me constantly to buy it. DLC can be done right, but it's more often done very wrong.

Dragon Age, immersion-breaking as the DLC popups were, sadly wasn't the worst example of DLC done wrong. That title falls to Burnout Paradise on the 360. It's doubly sad because the base 2008 game can be upgraded to the Ultimate Edition (same as the Steam PC edition) for free. While it shares with the PC version the obligatory store-visit when selecting a "premium" car, it also has a far more annoying addition.

There's a "Big Surf Island" expansion for the 360, situated in a coned-off area in the east, if you drive into the cones, it takes you to the store. At best that's annoying. But it's worse than that. When you're in that vicinity, the closest repair shop and scrapyard on your radar show up as the ones on that fecking island you can't get to. That for me goes beyond irksome to downright trying to trick people into thinking they have an incomplete game.

Notch recently played a bit of a joke with a pretend Minecraft Store, and with Valve only really selling hats and other cosmetic doodads from their trailers, you get the sense that they're having a laugh, too. Excepting of course that their laughter continues all the way to the bank.

DLC is a weird thing, I have no issues at all with the valve TF2/P2 model, which is shiny crap to play dress up with, effectively.

You don't need it to play the whole game, it's just there as a shiny extra.

On the other hand SP games with say, first month story DLCs are evil, stuff that should have been in the game.

I have no problems with story arc DLCs say, 3+ months after release, hell, it seems like a good way to get a bit of supplemental income to pay for patches etc.

I'm not sure millions of people would find it fair, but they'd buy it anyway. That's the same thing as far as the company is concerned. I think we've pretty much discussed ourselves to the same point here. Time to go to the bar.

It does seem rather expensive for what it is, for the SP game at least. Is the coop worth the extra cost?

The co-op, not really. It's great fun and all that but it really provides very little extra content so I wouldn't say it justifies the price.

The game itself doesn't really have a lot of room to expand with DLCs either without introducing new gameplay elements, co-op wise. I've been thinking about it and I'd say the game is about the perfect length, while you could listen to the lovely dialogue all day, there are limitations posed by the features, namely that you probably would die on the inside a little if you had to do repetitive test chambers for 5 hours straight. With each element getting its own 30 minutes part, they really didn't outstay their welcome.

(I'm not sure if that last part makes sense. I hope it does.)

I see your point, and I suppose measuring a game's worth purely on duration isn't necessarily fair.

As fantastic as the story and characters are, it's still a puzzle game at its core. I would find addition of advanced levels with no story perfectly fitting. Maybe time trials, leader boards etc.

I kinda think the store points to that as a possibility, to give it a positive slant. I still can't believe people would buy some vastly overpriced cosmetic items that only apply to co-op that only lasts a few hours with almost no replay value. Surely there is more content or modding support on way to give people reason to buy and flaunt their new hat crap.

Valve did this for Portal 1 didn't they? Perhaps they'll do the same for 2. I'm not particularly interested, but I'm sure some are. I had enough from what was included.

Smelly humans!

I've not finished it yet so I don't know but I get the impression that the the Portal 2 meme is one or all of the following 'It's not as good as the first one' , 'It's too short' , 'I hate overpriced DLC that doesn't exist' , 'It's not worth the hype'

No no, don't tell me, I want to find out on my own.

To get the full effect you need to rush through as fast as you can and don't get distracted by the pointless fluff content, like the talking.
