Apologies if I killed the server for anybody last night. I was downloading World of Tanks. Well, attempting to, the download was corrupt. Also I'm taking the machine down periodically - when I see no one is on - to give it a cool down break.

Here's a really cool tutorial on how to build a fireplace.

I had a cursory glance around spoodie's server earlier- I like what you've done with the place :D
What do I need to know before I doing anything?

Pick a spot and start building I guess.

Sound appears to be broken, for me at least.

If anyone wants wood, gobblestone or mud I have spare in my base (up the wooden path). Also any tools in my misc chest are going spare.

I'm looking at renting a server once the game is a little more mature, to save me from running one at home. Currently I'm thinking jestservers.com which is what RPS use. If you know of any more let me know.

Where do you get bricks from? I've never even seen clay, let alone bricks.

There was some clay in amongst the sand near the spawn - it looked like a slightly whiter version of smooth stone. I made a few bricks out of it (smelt clay), but haven't seen any more since.

I wonder if my single player world needs replacing. I might have started it before clay. Actually, it's not worth losing my monster deathtrap factory for.

Also, this is quite interesting. PCG article on mining based on research data.

I think clay's most often found under sand next to water rather than near the surface, but don't quote me on that though.
