They'd better let you disable other peoples' mics in the release version. Some people are tossers.

As much as the idea of listening to random idiots screeching and playing shite music over comms makes me want to vomit from my ears, I'll probably only be interested in 5punky games where we'd kick and annoying bastards. Well, apart from annoying 5punker bastards. I reckon they'll disable it anyway.

Most likely VoIP will be disableable in the server options, so I will.

I'm *really* hoping there will be co-op Skirmish against the AI like AvP1.

That will be amazingly 5punky.

I thought this demo was quite meh. I hope more modes fixes that.

And the mic thing is stupid. I've got my headset plugged in but using speakers mostly. It should have asked if I wanted to contribute to the random in-game noises and not require me to pull the connection from the back on my PC.

Yup. On the other hand, they do seem to have chosen what was always the weakest part of the original AvP games: all out deathmatch. It never worked before, so im not surprised it comes off a bit shit this time around.

I remain to be convinced either way, really.

Trailers are spewing thick and fast now, that's the second new one I've seen in the past couple of days.

Heh, cute. After Rogue Warrior I'm going to wait and see on this one. All previous AvP games have been worth buying, but Rebellion have tarnished their reputation badly with that last effort.

Eveything looks the wrong scale, like the Predator is fighting baby aliens and tiny men.

Well, predators are supposed to be massive, ranging from 7 feet to about 12 feet.

I think after watching the video again, the viewpoint when you play as a Predator is too high.

When you encounter their world models as other players, they seem about the right size, but the predator world model in that video seems to be smaller than the viewpoint of the player (you'd assume it to be on roughly the same level).

Aliens are also meant to be of variable size and build, depending on what the face-hugger took a hold of.

Singleplayer vids are out. I may poo myself playing as marine.

Looks like aliens are proper hard to kill as a marine. Excellent.

Hmm, well, Alien campaign looks fun, Predator so so from that video. Unsure about the Marine, seemed a bit pedestrian in places, partly I think due to the Aliens not being leaping bastards from what it looks like.

Could be an early level. I'm sure the aliens wont saunter towards you in plain sight for the entire campaign :P

In the other games the Predator was always the most mundane for me, since most of the guys you shoot are human and you can take lots of damage. I agree though about the Marine campaign. The aliens look slow and hard to kill, which is pretty much the opposite of what made them great in the other games. In the first few seconds of the Marine video I almost decided to pre-order - the atmosphere was spot on. And then I saw the combat and changed my mind. So, as before, I'll wait for some kind of reviews.

Yeah, that's kind of my concern too. I like the fact you can take limbs off and they keep coming, but the M41A fires 10mm Explosive Tipped Armour Piercing rounds (yes, I watched it the other week) and in the films and other games, managing to put a burst into them dropped them sharpish, as you'd expect when firing rounds that leave exit wounds on humans that you can fit your fist through (if the books are classed as cannon).

I'd hate for the Aliens to have been slowed down and made a bit tougher when shot at, which is odd considering you seen the Marine battering them to the floor with the M41A a few times in that video.

Most of the appeal from the first game was knowing that the Aliens were fast and hard to hit even if they go down quickly, because it made combat quick and exciting, but made walking around between combats scary because you knew just how easily they could kill you and you never really knew when that was going to be.

Still, I'll play it this weekend then report back. Hopefully it's just a poor video, that running scene looked like it could be fun though providing it's not all a massive set piece.
