to be honest, the SP is good to get used to the controls a bit, but fairly horrible, far too much use of the UI.
It has the whole 5punky game thing going on, y'know, crap unless you've got 5 pissed idiots trying to assault a town with a stolen tank and a landrover with flat tyres.
But, as pete has said, it's not for everyone, and I reckon it's vastly improved by joining in when a couple of people are on, and on TS, otherwise it's a walking sim and pretty meh, at least until you get the hang of it.
Just waiting on friz to fettle a few little things, then the 5punk campaign will start again, play that, not the SP.

it does run a lot better now.Mr. Johnson wrote:I'm *this* close to actually buying it, it does look like it's better with some community made stuff, and I guess I'll get used to the horrid amount of buttons to remember.
HOWEVER. When I played the demo it ran like utter crap on anything higher than the lowest settings, and it doesn't even look that pretty, have they fixed that yet, as I can't afford to upgrade right now, even though I should.

I had a fun couple of hours with Friz, Berk and a couple others on Sunday evening running around killin'folks. Once you have been hand held a little through the more usefull things (how to parachute is kinda useful as the map is mahoosive) then really there aren't many buttons that you use on a regular basis and most of them do the usual. The map is very sparse between hotspots and the hotspots aren't populated in the way they would be on COD4, but then you don't have medpacs either so one shot and you're pretty much done for the respawn. I like it.
as for srs bznz maybe one of you code monkeys could get funky with some addons. This is definitely the sort of sim that would benefit from ABBA costumes and an A-Team van. The costumes we could maybe take on tour? (or do they need to be supported on the hst server)

That new island is ace, would love to play a game on that.friznit wrote:http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8531
Link for future reference (new island with Domination on it for a change of scenery perhaps).
But a bit big to dowload. I want to steer clear of too many addons until all 5punkers who want to give the game a go have done so, otherwise it makes an already fairly daunting game harder to get into. We'll fire up the new Island & modified map in due course once we've had a few more play throughs.
That's not to say we can't shedule one night from time to time for a different map / mission / whatever. We're slightly restricting ourselve to just Domination at the moment (it does admittedly cover pretty much everything there is to do in game mind you), but I'd still like to run a Warfare map sometime, I like building bases and RTS style command

New patch out, includes the AH64 Apache! I'm looking forward to flying that baby into some trees.

Sadly I'm not back until after the New Year so our current server map won't get updated with the Apache until then.
The automatic loading of addons through .pbo association looks interesting, I wonder how it works and what it actually does?

Yep, 1.22 is the latest fettled but untested version. I removed some of the crap and tried to add more Medic types - the spec ops may be able to heal, need to test that - and more of the sniper types should be able to drop medic tents.
There's also a load more options in the server setup bit which I've not looked at

Future reference: Zeus AI Update is an addon that seems to fix many of the crappier bits of AI. It can be run server side only so no addon updating annoyance for casual players, but any AI people who join your team won't benefit from it.
