I desperately want a mechwarrior mmo (and a Pern MMO too but that will never happen) it would, should, be awesome. But spreadsheets in robots can fuck off.
CCP are being very tight lipped about this, so current rumour is that they've quietly licensed their engine out. Fuck knows why anyone would want to use such a shitty interface, but there you go.

Well, they had to do it before it was outdated to the point nobody would buy it. I wonder if CCP doesn't already have a newer/greater engine in the works then..... To handle more stuff like all the linking to planets that planetary landing will take....

Dunno, but it would probably have been cheaper to licence a UI/Backend that 'works', and then slowly puting their own stamp on it, rather than trying to come up with the server code and ui from scratch.
Plus, wasn't there another rumour going round about how a 'changable UI' was coming to EvE soonTM
I think we already have the so-called changable UI. We can move the windows about at least. They're about to put a proper browser in and revamp lots of bits for the new expansion patch on 1st Dec, so could be more in the works.
Planetary landing has been superceded by Dust514, the console only FPS that is intrinsically linked to Eve and will allegedly directly effect system sovereignty in both games.

My thoughts were that soldiers in Dust will need rides to and from places, or need reinforcements, or resources, thus the possibility for interactions...

Edge have a huge feature on Dust this month. Basically, Eve corporations can hire mercenaries (Dust players) to fight battles for control of terrain on planets within eve galaxies. Or something.
