Help, before I break the thing...
So, PC motherboard started to go into its death throes.
New one bought, seemed okay, until I went to plug the monitor in.
I've gotten the wrong connectors. Both the Board socket and the monitor plug are male (no jokes please).
Also, I can't plug the graphics card into the new board, as the board is smaller and would mean the rest of the connections are out.
I actually managed to find helpful person in PC world (yes, it can happen) but they don't have any that I need in stock.
So, I have need for an adaptor, if someone knows where one can be found, and wondering if anyone wants a Geforce 7300GT graphics card?
Please be gentle, I've never rebuilt a computer before this...

Not really.amblin wrote:Though better would be makes and models.
The confusion as I see it is TSD's rather vague werding on what's not going where and why*. Pictures would be as useful as make/model lists if not more so.
I randomly suspect mATX if things aren't lining up. I've honestly not got a clue what you mean by the male to male/board socket (I know what they are but cannot for the life of me apply context) unless it's dvi on the card and you only have vga cables.
* This sounds a bit dickish and I don't mean it to in any way. Plenty (probably the majority in fact) of people do not nerd all over pc parts despite their love of pc's.

Well you're doing pretty good compared to meThe Shutting Downs wrote:Please be gentle, I've never rebuilt a computer before this...
First time I tried to build a computer, I forgot to screw the little things into the case which hold the motherboard up, so basically I nearly short-circuited a brand new mobo.
Second time I built one, I overlooked a section in the manual and didn't plug in one of the power sources, sent the whole computer to a repair shop, where they couldn't identify the problem either, and I was on the way with the computer to the capital to change the allegedly faulty parts when I discovered that a plug just fits in that hole right there.
Right, issues.
If you can't plug it into the motherboard, it's very much possible you have an AGP graphics card and a PCI-E slotted motherboard or vice versa.
As for both end being a male, well, you'll either convince both sides they're faaabulous or check it again because I'm pretty sure all graphics cards are designed to be females. Unless I misunderstand it -- both my display and my graphics card has a female socket on it, with a two-male-side connector if that's what you mean, it *should* be correct.
Confusion: Why have you tried to plug the display into the GPU before you inserted it into your motherboard? It makes less sense than I usually do.

By the way, dug up a few images, might help.
Which one of these is present on your motherboard?
Far as I see, GeForce 7300GT is PCI-E by the way.
As for the male/female issue, you should have a cable which have either these DVI ends or those older ones (the name escapes me) on both ends.
Finally, both your display and graphics card should have one of these or the older ones, if they differ, use an adapter.

I think he's possibly on the right lines too, but I didn't want to confuse matters without seeing what was going on.Joose wrote:From the brief chat I had with him about it earlier, I believe Bally might be on to something with the PCI-E/AGP thing.
I think the reason he is trying to plug it in without a graphics card in is that he was attempting to use on board graphics till he gets the right flavour of graphics card.

Count the number of pins on the monitor cable and the computer.

Serial Port: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... loseup.jpg
Have a go counting the pins to see which ones you have

I has found my problem.
when I asked Joose to help me choose a new board he looked at this one;
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151053
And said 'yup, thats got everything you need'
Not noticing it doesn't have on board graphics. So the reason the\monitor won't plug in, is it isn't the monitor socket. Told you I'm new at this.
Anyone suggest a decent (but not expensive) card to go with this?
