Wouldn't mind sarkozy, his missus is smoking. Plus he's tiny so you could totally kick fuck out of him if he made a stupid. Kicking brown would be like sicking a soggy punch bag, you'd get tired before he got hurt.
The Italians generally don't give too much of a shit about Berlusconi because he tits about but they do okay.

It had both BNP and UKIP on my voting form, maybe they agreed not to actively campaign in those regions.
I though every party wanted a referendum on the Lisbon treaty, except Labour who promised one at the election then decided we couldn't have one. Strange since they're the ones in power - and all this Euro-skepticism started as a breakaway group when the Tories were in, now out of power they've gone all anti-Europe.
Could it be that the government in power is the only party which will actually be judged on results and actually want what's best for the country? Could it be that having a referendum where a bunch of clueless, misinformed, racist bunch of fucks (ie: the british public) get to decide, is actually the worst idea ever?

That applies to a lot of things in our system, but unfortunately it's how democracy works. Personally I think it gives too much power to the media, who seem to be able to lead the public by the nose. I agree that there's a lot to be said for leaving decisions to those who know what they're doing, but ultimately they need to be accountable to the public.FatherJack wrote:Could it be that the government in power is the only party which will actually be judged on results and actually want what's best for the country? It's funny and your right. The entire media circus seems to have either overlooked or missed that one.amblin wrote:The real story here, which is being completely obscured by the implosion of Labour and the rise of the inner racist fuck-nut (thanks Daily Mash) is that the majority of the electorate either want out of the EU or at least want a fucking chance to vote on it! Rather than having socialist policy foisted on all of us with no democratic process.
I'm not that up on what our relationship is to the eu. I know part of it involves concessions for work travel documents so that non-brits can get work here easier. I'm not overly opposed to that in principal. I possibly wouldn't have a doctor right now if it wasn't for that, but then the trademen in me looks at the european building standards vs the british ones and I weep when I see some of the building practises employed during construction of modern erections. If europe matched us there, I'm not sure I'd have a thing to say against it.
63% of the vote though, even taking the 43% voter turn-out I've seen reported and assuming that's the UK, that's alot of people who do want that referendum. Should be head-line news...
Late last night as results were comming in, the BBC mentioned nearly in passing that the 3 main parties had agreed to put up candidates in areas they wouldn't usually bother with 'Because getting slaughtered is better than fringe parties like the BNP getting votes'. If they'd knicked the idea from there or it was the other way around, I don't really care, because it's a side of politics I don't care for it. I forget who said it, but I do like this quoteamblin wrote:Interestingly, the BNP and UKIP had tacit agreement to avoid standing against one another, the BNP taking the northern counties, UKIP the south. I think that was a mistake by UKIP, for two main reasons, first it makes them look allied to a party which is basically racist and wants a wasps only UK, and secondly they'd probably have got far more of the vote up north than the BNP!
"I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it."
The BNP and to an extent UKIP are loons as far as I care. They're one dimentional parties who really shouldn't get anywhere in a regional proportional representational system. The fact that they do, in my view, is down in part to a failure of the larger parties getting their policies across. The last general election I went hunting across the 3 main parties websites for their policies so I could try and make an informed decision when I went to vote. It was alot harder than it should have been and if I strugle to navigate to these places, god only knows how some of the general public manages.
And that's about as much thought as my brain can handle. Time for caffene
Fewer people voted for them this year than in the 2004 election, but the general lack of votes coupled with proportional representation means they got in.buzzmong wrote:BNP vote hasn't suprised me in the slightest as I did think quite a few would use them as a protest vote, the UKIP did though. I wasn't expecting them to do that well.
