Free drawing software?

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Free drawing software?

Post by friznit »

Looking for something like Paint.Net, but specifically for drawing plans to scale (AutoCAD style, but slightly less complicated). Any ideas?

sketchup is ok, can be a bit counter-intuative in places. But its free! Yay.

If you have acess to floors, and you want a cad package for components/parts etc i'd reccomend solidworks. For buildings etc, autocad is the standard. Probably worth haveing a crack at it, even if it is a bit complex at first. I think there are different versions as well, you might be able to find a cut-down simplified one.

Right, now I have the mental image of friznit standing in front of a huge canvas next to a table full of bottles of condiments, spilling them on it one-by-one.

Solidworks is just like it says, you are building solid objects in 3d, for simple line work AutoCad or any of the various generic versions would work 1000x better and with less of a learning curve. As for free, not sure, but you can get a demo ( :sweep: ) of AutoCAD LT to see if it'll work for you.
