Is that the new thing on windows update? It just a thing that checks to see if youre using a legal copy of windows.

I did what it said and it still tried to install Genuine Advantage.

I just tested it. It seems you have to install genuine advantage whatever but you disable it each time you want to update by entering the javascript line into the URL.

all i got given a blank cd with 'restore pack' writen on mine. not even a fucking cd key for the OS it ran. but i still havnt resorted to installing a shady version of xpthis week , no sir

According to the Thursday posting, all a PC user apparently has to do to have GenuineCheck.exe generate a valid code on a machine with pirated Windows XP is to run it in Windows 2000 compatibility mode. This is done by downloading the tool, right-clicking on the file and selecting "properties." Then select the "compatibility" tab in the menu and change the compatibility mode.
If the method actually works, it may be short-lived. "Microsoft will be updating the validation system from time to time and plans to address these issues," the Microsoft representative said.

I've got a very handy present for you guys too.
It's called, "Use firefox, uninstall java from IE, download updates." keep it hush though.
