I seem to be failing a bit just now, so does anyone have any ProTips for someone to buy? I have about £4k cash at the moment, but have made some bad choices over the last few days. Is it best to buy shares and sit on them for a week, or trade every day, or a mix of both?

Seems to me that the dividends are the big earners. I spent last week daytrading and got thrashed on friday.

Dividends are calculated based on the whole week's news, but to earn the full amount you only have to hold them between Monday and Friday. Actually it's nearer three days, as you can buy late Monday night and get the dividend money early Friday morning. The rest of the time you can spend daytrading.

Of course you can still keep some money back to play with during the week, as big dividends don't come every week.

Useful pages for dividend projection are the daq diary which shows upcoming events as well as showing you which event count in which week, and each celeb's page which has a Potential Dividend entry near the bottom - although this only seems to update daily.

Useful pages for day trading are the mover/losers list and the graphs on each celeb's page - although the latter seems to lag behind the up/down arrows on the list by an hour or so.

yup, dividends are good until you get a decent stash for daytrading i think.

Spent the first couple of days getting cut to pieces by the commision, meaning i was only making like £2 on a trade, so i gave up.

Bought a load of dirt cheap shares (Richard Hammond was 1.01, so i just bought thousands of him). Came back after the weekend, and discovered his dividend was something like 1.90 a share! made 10k, bought another load of cheap shares (Jamie Foxx is 1.01 as well, but his potential dividend is only 56p a share.)

well see what happens this weekend

Blimeh. I've taken a right kicking this week. I put my money on Charles and Camilla, and got spanked. All was was well until Wednesday when Chucks' prices fell through the floor. Looks like I'll have to hang onto him until I can recoup some of the loss. Daytrading has just about kept me soluble.

Thank god I don't do this for a living.

Yep, looks like a bit of both is the way forward - I did even worse this week with dividends than I did last week day-trading.

Didn't make much this week - I had good dividends, but they were expensive shares, so I wasn't holding enough of them to do very well.

While Camilla looked a bargain, being massively cheaper than the rest of the royals, she was still around £17 - so she'd have to had a record-breaking dividend of 17 to be as good value as Christopher Biggins whose dividend matched his share price in pounds at just over 1.

Shitting christ hehulk, who have you been investing in? I've gained about 15% so far this week, but have done sod-all day-trading and have no money left either.

I'm bloody woeful at this lark. I'm trying to pick someone for weekly dividends and doing a bit of day-trading but I just get spanked all the time. I took a massive hit on Prince Charles (over 5% of my worth) last week as well :(

Got about 50% off Paul O'Gradys over the weekend, but forgot to change to dividend-earners until yesterday so I won't get the full payout.

looks like dividend day could be good for me! i've got 8000 shares in michelle ryan (ex-eastenders and current wonderwoman bint) with a potential dividend of 2.59 per share, and 5000 shares in richard hammond with a potential dividend of 1.20 ps.

/counting chickens before they hatch blog...

Definatly given up on the day trading malarky. i tend to find my shares have risen and fallen by the time i get chance to take a look at it.

I got £3k of dividends this week, and have invested lots in Lewis Hamilton, The Queen, Heather Mills and Paul McCartney. Should all be fairly safe investments for the next week I think! :)

Well, after a nightmare last week, and a crap start to this week, the last couple of days have been quite good. I don't know Prince Beckham has done this week but he has netted me a tidy little profit. I think I'll shelve the day-trading next week and see how we go.
