If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

8800's

Post by thewombleofdeath »

I'm hoping to upgrade to an 8800 soonish (not too bothered which one, as long as it's not too expensive) from my 8600gt so before I go buying a brand new one, I was just wondering if anyone has one going that they are upgrading from or don't use anymore, to save a few bob :)
Thanks

8800GT is the one to get, unless you have the moneyhats, in which case you should get the G92 8800GTS 512MB one.

Or wait for the 9 series if you can. 9600gt comes out in february, 9800s will probably be out a few months later.

The 9800 bit is an educated guess, but the 9600gt is definately coming out february if it doesn't get delayed.

it's worth remembering that nvidia still dominate the high end market, that the 8800GT (the lowest of the 8800s) trounces the 9600s, and that, above all, the 9800 will probably come out at the £400 price point.

get a G92 8800 :)

I meant that those are not worth getting. 8800GT >> 9600GT.

:above: I am happy with my 3870. At the price I paid it's good, but they're getting too expensive compared to the 8800GTs.

I wouldn't say that, the 768MB 8800 GTX/Ultra prices are still pretty high about the same as I paid a year ago for bestest-of-best, it's just that they've found ways to reduce costs with reduced cooling requirements and slightly lesser memorys to bring us the GT, a side effect being that the previously derided GTS range now have the new G92 tech making them an excellent mid-to-high range choice.

so basically from what I can work out, I should get the 8800GT unless I can find some spare monies from under the sofa or something, in which case I should get the G92 8800GTS.
Also, don't get an ATI because they're just a bit too cack.

right?

I'm not being defensive about it pete. KV's card is a pile of crap indeed. Mine is good for the amount I paid (and because it came with many free games).

 I knew that deej, it was an excuse to wind KV up, it's not as funny when you blunder in with your well reasoned counter-argument,

Although I'm glad we all agree that KV's 2900 was a complete waste of money and being a fanboy gimp serves him right.
