steam using firefox

Post by thewombleofdeath »

not sure if this is in the right room but.....

for some reason, instead of steam using internet explorer to load the 'community', 'store' and other pages, it's trying to use firefox and coming up with the download box every time I click a link (see picture)

PICHA

any ideas how to fix it?

Is Firefox set as the default program for .htm files? Do you normally use IE or Firefox?

i usually use firefox and it is set as the default for .htm files but I haven't changed any settings (to my recollection) recently so it seems odd that it has suddenly changed to firefox by itself

I know Steam uses an IE base, but I don't know if it's affected by the IE you have installed... see if your copy of IE is the same. If not, you might have to reinstall Steam. If you do, copy your .gfcs somewhere first so you don't have to download your games again.

edit: That's an IE download box by the way, it's just assigning the icon because Firefox is your default. That can be caused either by a borked IE (in Steam or not- see above) or by the valve server being configured wrong.

Browsers are like "omg wtf you're not using meh as teh dee-fault browser u must correct it now!!!!11oneoneandeleven" when you run them after another. You probably disabled these questions for both IE and Firefox, leaving Firefox as your default browser.

I think I'm going to just re-install steam; it seems to be completely buggered. teef won't get past the opening credits without closing itself.

Is there anything I need to keep other than the GFC's and is there any use in doing a system restore point before I re-install it?

You may wish to backup any SAVE directories if you want to continue any saved games.
I think that's all though...
