We try out Shure's new entry-level in-ear headphones, which come in at just under £55. Are they worth the cost considering you'll just cover them in wax? We find out by testing them out on some slammin' tunes!

No, they won't be worth it. A magnet/cone combo that small cannot reproduce a full and accurate register simple as. Plus In ear fucks your hearing really fast, and you will block the sound with ear butter. You want good portable sound? Sacrifice a bit of fashion, get some big over-ear cans and go all 80's.

Shures are generally really good, I'd expect them to sound considerably better than 95% of the headphones 5punkers use.

They are good 'phone, but the inability to reproduce accurate sound comes from their size (or rather, the lack of), unless they manage to win physics, it can't happen. The £55 is better spent elsewhere. Like some sennheiser 500 cans, they start around 50 quid.

You can get HD650s for under £200 now, everyone should do that and then spend another £150 on an amp :)

Pfft, you got me there. I'm still ginger even when I shave my head/beard and no colour remains. Speaking of shaving, you could try that too, a circular cutter used to trim kebabs should work quite well.

I don't think I've ever worn headphones like that, my first "walkman" had those orange sponge ones. If I wore those big headphones I might as well carry my stuff around in a record bag and work in new media. :P

No offence to those that carry their stuff in record bags or work in new media.

You mean scene people, ones that like wearing black/red combo's a lot, topped with oversized white glasses and strange shoes?

Or indie kids, with skinny fit girls jeans on and check hankies wrapped round random body parts?

You can hide them with a hoodie if your really desperate, but better still, see if you can find a set of bright orange sponge ones, and use them!
