C:\Documents and Settings\*your username*\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default

where "xxxxxxxx" is a random 8 character string. Copy the Bookmarks.html somewhere save, then delete the "xxxxxxxx.default" folder. Start Firefox up and then close it. Put the Bookmarks.html in the new "xxxxxxxx" folder, then open FIrefox again and istall whatever extensions you want.

i can't delete that folder becuase one or more of the files in it are corrupt. reinstaling firefox doesn't work becuse as the uninstall is not able to delete the crrupt files they are still tehre when it is reinstaled

Start > Run > firefox -profilemanager
Create a new profile, copy across bookmarks.html (and key3.db if you've got passwords stored), then you should at least have a working profile while you figure out how to delete the old profile (make backups, run chkdsk, probably)

Uh, boot into "Safe Mode with command prompt" and then break out your DOS commands to delete them.

Or do what Stoat said, it's probably easier. Although I'd still delete the old stuff because it'd bug the shit out of me.
