Turtles Used To Test Wireless Network
Researchers are using turtles to test a wireless network of constantly moving (albeit slow moving) devices that transmit data from one device to another, then relay all the saved information to a central location.
Using a combination of orthodontic cement and duct tape, the students attached a postcard-sized waterproof computer to the turtle's shell. After christening the 16th male turtle he found in the area as "M16," Jones scribbled some information about the turtle's shell markings into a field book and set the snapper free.
Good thing- postcard sized waterproof computer, sounds highly advanced and I commend everyone who had a hand in making it. Bad things- duct tape? Come on, surely we can do better than that! Naming a turtle after an assault rifle? there isn't anything I can think of to say to that
We're doing the same thing with wireless networks on mobile platforms in the Army. Difference is that the computers are the size of letter boxes and my tank is called Dougal.
