Garry's Mod Competition #5

Post by Grimmie »

HELLO ONE AND ALL, AND WELCOME TO THE FIFTH GARRY'S MOD CONSTRUCTION COMPETITION!

Gman is holding a party over at Gman Towers, and as usual seems to be hiding in the most unlikely, most impossible to get to location on the whole map, perched on top of a six storey tower slumped on a sofa with only bottles of beer and industrial strength bleach to keep him company. Your invitiation allows you to bring a friend too, so let's see how you get you and a friend from the starting position over the Gman towers!

Let's see your two seater TRANSPORTATION MACHINES! .. (again)
Think Cars and Buses! Think Helicopters and Planes! Think Bridges! Think Monorails and Lifts! Drive, walk, fly or bounce around!
Fully functioning, videos and pictures please, .sav files would also be quite lovely.

Points awarded for Awesomeness and Creativity!
Bonus points awarded if you can transport beer to the party too.

This challenge uses a custom map downloaded off the magical interwebs called Freespace - It's included in the .rar file available for download below, along with the save game and thumbnail. Simply extract the .rar file to your garrysmod folder or drag and drop the relevant folders inside.

- Download the map, savegame and thumbnail from Hyperupload
- Download the map, savegame and thumbnail from Megaupload
- Bukkake Mirror
- Berk Mirror
- Open the game from the Load Game dialogue, or type LOAD GModCompo5 in the console

Completely unrelated to competition video tiem go!

After the last competition I found a fancy little plugin called Wire Addon. It's very hard to understand but totally awesome. It lets you do things like this:

Baths that follow you and explode when they're close!

Cars that show your speed and explode when you go under 50!

Explosions that fire barrels automaticall!

Attempt one: The Joosey flying machine = Teh fail. I got to the top of the tower, then the flying machine killed me and ran away, never to be seen again.

Is anyone else having trouble with some of the gmod tools (specifically the lamp and prop spawning tool) not working at all? Neither of them are super important, but it's annoying when they don't work :(

I figure either it broke during an update to gmod or some of the plugins I have broke it.

Welding and most of them are ok. It's just balloons (and party's need balloons :( ), lamps and the prop spawner that aren't working. My first attempt is done, but due to fraps spackage I don't have a video yet.

First attempt. Difficult to maneuver (especially reversing) and at points difficult to even see. I need lamp :(

Attempt Two of making a flying machine (which shall be named the Disasterous Flying Carpet) went....wrong. I shall do a film of the results.

Attempt Three (The Amazing Joosey UFO) was a lot more succesfull, even if it does travel in a slightly unconventional manner. I shall Frapsify it tomorrow.

I made a lovely super-duper hovering rig made out of eight sofas and several iron grates, thrusters and traffic cones.
It was a work of genius and I almost had secondary thrusters working to keep the entire thing hovering in mid air when I wanted to park.. When I nudged it the wrong way and it had a megaspack. I rushed for the 'no collide' tool to fix things, and hit everything once, resetting the entire thing - wonderful! And then, in a bid to remove a faulty thruster I RIGHT CLICKED with the remover tool and deleted the ENTIRE THING.

Bastard.
