PS3s
Anyone else here got a PS3? what are your thoughts?
I've got one and love it, I use my PC for FPS and strategy games mostly but love driving games and beat-em-ups - which I've never thought play too well on a PC. I know you can get a PC version of most driving games but would be very suprised to see a PC run Motor Storm as well as a PS3 (well it probably could but I'd need to spend a hell of a lot more than what a PS3 costs to upgrade mine).
any chance of adding a PS3 gaming tag box to the profile? Mine is Strangey

Good idea, I expect WEY will do that once he's got time.DrStrange wrote:any chance of adding a PS3 gaming tag box to the profile?
I don't own a PS3 and probably never will, but I agree with you that racing games and fighting games are never as good on the PC as on consoles.

I don't own one, as there isn't that much out yet that I'm interested in - like you I do feel that driving games work best on consoles, but I also have a fondness for console RPGs.
I wasn't sure how many I had, so I just had a quick count - I have 29 PS2 RPG/tactical battle games.
Compared with about 10 on the GameCube, and maybe 3 on the Xbox, that's quite a surprising number. If releases go the same way on this new system, it's going to be a must-buy for me, but I don't see anything announced as yet. Current releases suggest they are copying the 360 a bit, going for big-name shooters and online-capable games, which is a mistake in my view, I have hardly any of those on anything other than PC.
I was the same with the PS2, I didn't get one until about a year after Final Fantasy X came out, at which time a few others began to appear, and it's only in this last year or two that the really big titles have been appearing, like Dragon Quest, Suikoden V and Okami.

Only other game so far is Tekken 5 which is pretty awesome.TezzRexx wrote: What other games did you get?
When my credit card recovers from its recent trauma I want to get The Godfather . I want to see what this machine is capable of on a GTA style free roam game - *counting the days till GTA IV*
Final Fantasy looks like it will be epic and I'm looking forward to playing a new Wipeout.
Pretty much everything I've seen it do so far is stunning, I've got a reasonably high spec PC but the PS3 just feels more fluid and realistic. I'm sure theres a lot of untapped potential which we'll see once programmers get to grips with it.

I'll probably pick up a ps3 sometime down the line in a couple of years, but for now I have no burning desire to get one, and out of principle won't buy a european one.
I don't like having to pay more (in the region of £100-£150) than our american/japanese brethren and get a crappier console.
If they were the same price but less functionality I'd be more meh on the issue (I only want to play a few of the 10/10 games), but how on earth can Sony charge that much more for a console which is now cheaper for them to produce and not as good?

Yeah, motorstorm does seem to be the only real game to drag me personally towards a PS3, but I'm never gonna have enough spare cash for one until.. well, ever. What do you reckon of it? (Motorstorm) And does the six-axis controller really work for it?DrStrange wrote: would be very suprised to see a PC run Motor Storm as well as a PS3

I feel the PS3 will only start selling properly once the new Final Fantasy game comes out early 2008, which may be a bit too late for Sony.
Re: PS3s
Motor Storm is visually stunning, but its the realism of the physics that does it for me and how fluid it feels to play.pixie pie wrote:

The PS3 componants are geared towards vast sprawling areas with tons of physics so MotorStorm is a perfect game for the system. It uses OpenGL so the graphics have a different feel to them compared to most PC or 360 games. In my opinion the particle based effects like smoke, dust and fire look very organic when compared to a Direct X based system.
I'm not sold on sixaxis yet, its fun and it works well for driving games but its still a little gimmicky - has anyone with a Wii got bored of flailing their arms around like a nutter yet?

LittleBigPlanet looks plain amazing, fl0w looks good and MotorStorm looks ok, but It wont be to my tastes. But dropping £400 for 3 good games, and an unpredictable future with many previously exclusive developers leaving, is plain stupid.
Also, SixAxis can suck my balls, such an awfull gimmick, the Wii works because it's a mainly party system or it's well implemented in games, flailing your hands around in serious game isn't good.
