Pimp your Kickstarter

Post by Dog Pants »

I can't remember there being a topic to mention stuff you've Kickstarted so allow me to do just that. Just in case you don't want to start a new topic, but think other 5punkers might be interested. I just backed Warmachines Tactics, because I'm a sucker for turn based wargames and this one looks like a pretty good conversion of a well established tabletop game, in a fairly interesting setting.

Everything I've backed has completed already. The last one is the film to be made by the 5 Second Films crew.

I wasn't going to mention Octopus City Blues because it's mental and I didn't think anyone would like it, but this update had me snorting my tea with its ridiculous parodies of old 8-bit games. It's doubled its funding, against their and my own expectations. I thought it was mental enough to put a few quid on. Also the idea of a point-and-click with a city that simulates the NPCs doing their own thing in the background was interesting. But mostly the tentacles.

Here's a couple more. I saw a piece on PCGamesN about The Fall, which sets you as a spacesuit's AI trying to get the injured occupant to safety. Seems like a grim space sideways point and click with Aszimov's laws of robotics as the basis for puzzles. I liked the idea but was going to wait and see for the pledge, commenting on how amused I'd be if it turned out the occupant was dead all along. The dev was reading apparently, because he liked the idea. So I pledged, just because he seems to have a similar sense of humour to me. It's about a third of the way to its goal with 28 days to go, so looks promising.
When I did that I noticed a Lovecraft first person horror game advertised called U55, set in the Berlin subways. The videos look good, with a phone apparently your only weapon, so I backed that too. That was a bit more, and it only has about 40% of its $118 target made with 8 days left, so I don't think it's going to make it short of Notch tweeting about it. Still, it's doing well on Greenlight so maybe that will encourage them to keep making it.

It's already made it's rather modest goal and I am STILL waiting on a comic I backed over a year ago but I'm backing this.

EDIT
Umm, does this have to be gaming related?

Can't see any reason we have to stick to gaming kickstarters. Rules aren't really our thing anyway.

I backed Catapult For Hire the other day. I don't really know how to describe it.. It's a puzzle game I suppose, but one where you use a catapult to solve them. I thought it looked a bit like a 3D Crush The Castle at first, but by teleporting you catapult about and using different loads to press buttons and things I finished with the video thinking it was more like Portal. Worth a look anyway.

Explore a whimsical Nintendo 64 era world and discover its darkest secrets
Another indie game, another attempt at stirring up nostalgia through crappy graphics.

Allow me to remind you actually how shitty the N64 looked.

It's more the nostalgia of how Mario 64 looked at the time than how shit the shooters look now to be fair. From what I glimpsed of the game the graphics aren't any more crap than Minecraft - it might be styled in a certain retro-feel way, but you see nary a pixel in a modern full-screen rendering and it's portraying a cartoonish world rather than a photorealistic one.

Is just a shit soundbyte for them to use, the game doesn't look anything like Mario 64 or whatever it is supposed to be riffing. Attempt to garner interest by using the industries current love affair (aka excuse to use shitty graphics) with retro. FUCK RETRO FUCK IT IN THE FUCKING EAR.

However, game does look good. Worth 10 bucks surely.

I somehow completely missed that line. Probably because I don't give a fuck about the N64. Didn't resemble that or indeed anything retro to me.

These hacks may be happening with annoying frequency, but it's worth resetting your password for your own sake. Hackers gonna hack.

We are pimping Greenlight on here as well, right?

Gang Beasts

You can download a very early tech demo thingy here.

They're hashed and it's unique. Worst case is they see what I've backed, and I don't really care.

We don't want to discourage others from taking steps though. I checked that there's no payment methods saved, so I'm not too bothered either.
