New Games 2013
Here's a nice list I found on an IGN comment, which are you excite about, if any?
1. Aliens: Colonial Marines
2. Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel
3. Beyond: Two Souls
4. BioShock Infinite
5. Castlevania 2: Lords of Shadow
6. Crysis 3
7. Dark Souls II
8. Dead Island: Riptide
9. Dead Space 3
10. DmC: Devil May Cry
11. Gears of War: Judgement
12. God of War: Ascension
13. Grand Theft Auto V
14. Injustice: Gods Among Us
15. Lost Planet 3
16. Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
17. Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain
18. Star Wars: 1313
19. Remember Me
20. SimCity
21. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
22. South Park: The Stick of Truth
23. Splinter Cell: Blacklist
24. StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm
25. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
26. The Elder Scrolls Online
27. The Last of Us
28. Tomb Raider
29. Watch Dogs
30. Rayman Legends
31. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
32. Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Patriots
33. Pikmin 3
34. Total War: Rome II
35. Metro: Last Light
36. Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs
37. Company of Heroes 2
38. Fire Emblem: Awakening
39. Soul Sacrifice
40. Tearaway
41. Game & Wario
42. Tales of Xillia
43. Deadpool
44. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
45. Agent
46. Arma III
47. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
Maybe Neverwinter should be added as well.
#44 Ni No Kuni is out already, and I basically bought a replacement PS3 so that I could play it and I am super-excited about #42 Tales of Xillia.
I wouldn't mind a bit of #13 GTAV, and #27 The Last Of Us looks to be a very interesting not-actually-zombies zombie apocalypse game in the style of the Uncharted series.
I don't think #3 Beyond: Two Souls has anything to do with the previous Beyond games, it's an incredibly lengthy Interactive Story from the Heavy Rain developers.
#29 Watch Dogs looks a bit Deus-Ex-like, though not set so far in the future, but involving lots of hacking.
#40 Tearaway is a PS-Vita game from Media Molecule (Little Big Planet), where you use the touchpad on the back of the Vita to push your fingers into a papercraft world on the screen and use the camera and other features.
#45 Agent is a new franchise from Rockstar, which might turn out to be another Red Dead Redemption, ie: rather good.

Re: New Games 2013
Are any of those not sequels? (Serious question)
Total War: Rome II and ArmA3 are the only ones on there which immediately grab my fancy, though will probably get Aliens for the coop mode. Sadly not seeing X Rebirth on there, which either means Egosoft are being very cagey or it's been delayed yet another year. SimCity would have excited me, but it sounds like it's going to be the very worst EA/Origin can do to the gaming industry in terms of always online DRM, enforced DLC and "accessibility".

Re: New Games 2013
None of those have me excited. I'm vaguely interested in Tesco, but I'm sceptical it won't be just another MMO. The setting of Star Wars 1313 is interesting - I've always thought the best Star Wars stories were the ones detached from the main storyline. Other than that they mostly look to be console releases, PC games I know about but have no interest in, or PC releases I've never heard of. SimCity as a game could be great, but like Friz I would never part with cash for such a mostrocity of dirty commercial tricks. Fortunately for me there are a bunch of great looking indie games due out this year, and I'm sure there will be good games not on that list (Impire, for example, is shaping up nicely).

Re: New Games 2013
4. BioShock Infinite - I am very much looking forward to this one.
13. Grand Theft Auto V - I liked IV the least of all the GTAs and still played the shit out of it. I'm hoping this iteration will be a little more GTA of old as far as silliness goes, as that was my only real complaint against the last one: it was played too damn straight. It doesn't need to go the full Saints Row, just less po faced.
20. SimCity - I wouldn't go so far as to say im exited, but its still an almost certain buy for me at this point. The DRM stuff doesn't bother me in the slightest, and calling it "the very worst EA/Origin can do" and "a monstrosity of dirty commercial tricks" seems excessively alarmist to me. I don't see how its any worse than Diablo 3 for example. The only thing about that worries me at all is the relatively small, artificially shaped cities.
24. StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm - I am super excite. I will probably just bash the shit out of the singleplayer and never touch it again (as that's what happened with the first SC2 instalment) but I love these old school RTS's and there just haven't been enough of them recently.
26. The Elder Scrolls Online - I am in no way excite to any degree at all, ever. The super shiny FMV trailer was dull as dishwater, and seems to have been made by someone who didn't know what the races actually look like in game. The in game footage I've seen makes it look like an ugly, generic MMO. I can see absolutely nothing about it that would make it stand out from the other generic MMO's that have failed utterly in the last few years, and cant understand why anyone would want to play this when there's things as good as Guild Wars 2 available.
27. The Last of Us - I would be all over this, but its a playstation exclusive. Poo.
28. Tomb Raider - Initially the announcement of a new Tomb Raider did nothing for me. I played the old games a bit, years ago, and I enjoyed them well enough I suppose. It was never a series that clicked with me for some reason though. The more im seeing/reading, the more interested im getting though. Put me down for "mild excite" on this.
29. Watch Dogs - Hrm. The trouble with Watch Dogs is that I still don't really know bum all about it other than what was in that first trailer. It certainly looked like it could be extremely cool. It could also be a massive disappointment though, if what was in the trailer are *the only things* you can do. I dunno. Im reserving judgement until more solid informations.
34. Total War: Rome II - Im absolutely terrible at the Total War games, and still I love playing them. Being a massive Rome nerd, the Rome based TW game was by far my favourite of the lot. The promise of a new one makes me do the happy dance.
43. Deadpool - Oh god. I really, really hope this is good. I really, really doubt it will be. God damn it.
45. Agent - I had heard nothing about this till I googled it five minutes ago. I started getting very interested, as the setting sounded like something I would like, its a relatively novel concept for a game. Then I realised it was a PS exlusive.

Re: New Games 2013
Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
Simcity
Both are on pre-order and are being released a week apart in March.
On top of Dragonborn (which was released yesterday) I should be sorted for games this year, I think.

Re: New Games 2013
Apologies if this derails the thread, and I'm fully aware that Joose and I have laid out our arguments about this before and are unlikely to change either opinion. I feel personally though that online DRM, day 0 DLC and other such practices are exploititive of paying customers and I will speak out against and refuse to buy them every time they present themselves. If that sounds alarmist it's because I am alarmed, or at least very concerned, with the way big budget gaming is going. I also protested against and refused to buy Diablo 3, and that didn't have day 0 DLC.Joose wrote:The DRM stuff doesn't bother me in the slightest, and calling it "the very worst EA/Origin can do" and "a monstrosity of dirty commercial tricks" seems excessively alarmist to me. Re: New Games 2013
There's a tipping point and it's different for everyone and to a degree each game. I didn't buy Diablo 3 because it was shit, but I am hesitant about SimCity.
As it is, The Sims is already pretty damn close to the Facebook version of itself - with links to the online store plastered all over the interface.
There's a line they are very close to crossing if they haven't already, where scrolling past, or clicking cancel to constant interruptions to your game inviting you to spend money becomes so tedious that it is no longer worth the effort of playing the game at all.
I am aware the store exists, should I need it - I don't need reminding every time I start the game, or whenever I go to select an object as I have to scroll past all the "premium items".
I hate that my consoles have adverts inserted into the menus which I cannot delete, but I love that Steam tells me when I game I have has additional content, or that a wishlisted game is on sale.
I do buy DLC and store items for things I am interested in, but I can safely say I have never had any difficulty in navigating my way to the checkout.

Re: New Games 2013
Microtransactions and pushy stores are something that will make people vote with their feet and wallets in a free to play game, but it seems to be acceptable to many from a full price game. Baffling, especially since you should expect it to some extent in a free game. Dead Space 3 has been the epitome of this recently, although apparently people have already worked out how to exploit the micro-dlc for free. I wouldn't be surprised if they find themselves banned from their single player game.

Re: New Games 2013
Back to the list -
GTA V, could not care less about this unless they haul it back to sillier times. Serious missions in serious Hawaiian shirts and aviators kind of times, doing wheelie uzi drive-by's to the dulcet tones of phil collins kind of times. I tried to like GTA IV, but the incessant whining by everyone about answering the phone or going somewhere was bloody awful.
Crysis 3, another AAA franchise that can fuck off. Played a bit of the first one, found it boring. Only reason there's any crysis type stuff on my pc is crysis wars to support living legends and that's been canned.
Metro:Last Light - still not sure what the fuck from the first game, but it was weird and claustrophobic and pant shittingly scary at times, this is more of the same but with a bit more money behind it, happy days.
Cod 4:4:4 or whatever the fuck this is up to now, fuck you activision. Fuck you.
Deadpool will likely be shit but if it's halfway decent I'm on that like asian men on used panties.
Bioshock, please let it be like 1 not 2, 2 is not only one of the shittest sequels ever (compared to the first) but it's hype was insane (due to the first) if it's even half the game bioshock was, it'll be a solid performer.
TESO - seeing a lot of people very divided on this. As always it'll boil down to how easy and fun they'll make levelling, ranging from solid grind to titting about with your mates and doing compelling story runs has somehow made you badass. And then it'll boil down to end game. I'm hoping it'll be skyrim with mates, with loads of interesting and different dungeons and awesome pvp at the end of it.
The only new IP I'm interested in is watch dogs, co-op hacky deus ex type stuff with the now somewhat ubiquitous ubisoft parkour thrown in? Looks quite good.
Agent is the new Rockstar IP, but it's PS3 exclusive which is a shame as the scraps that I found look quite good.

Not a new game, but Brütal legend is coming to pc. It's not super expensive either and I suggest you check it out if you're into metal.
Actually you know what, just check it out.

Re: New Games 2013
Watch Dogs is now a PS4 exclusive, as is Star Wars: 1313 most likely. I suspect a few other delayed games will end up on there such as FFversusXIII and The Last Guardian as well as a few of the ones from that list though hopefully not the Last Of Us (Naughty Dog) or Agent (Rockstar).
Beyond: Two Souls (Heavy Rain guys) was probably always going to end up there. Sony approached developers as early as 2008 about their desired specs for a 'next-gen platform' and Naughty Dog and Heavy Rain representatives were speakers at the launch event, so it wasn't exactly a secret that PS4 was coming.

They haven't released or had ported to anything other than PlayStations since Crash, right? I'm not hopeful for The Last of Us. I've always wished they would develop games of the PC as they're one of the Good Devs.FatherJack wrote:Last Of Us (Naughty Dog)

The only thing I've read is that they're developing for the PS4 as well now, and as the PS4 is simply just a beefed up PC it would be madness if it didn't come out for it.
