Gaming moments of our childhoods
Post yours here!
Let me start it with:
Getting close to my fastest time ever on the assault course at Lara's house, only to be stopped in my tracks by the ambling, groaning Winston the butler trying to serve me a cocktail. Only reasonable solution was to lock him in the meat freezer.
Old cold bastard.

Re: Gaming moments of our childhoods
Key moments:
This game ended when I threw a cup of beverage over someone else when a monster jumped out at me...

This game amazed me with its note for note perfect match of the original soundtrack main song (the speech was so so having experienced "B17 Bomber" on the intellivision with its realistic voices...)

Probably first game that lead to much violence and machine smashing:

The game that lead to an Atari ST death from a single punch:

Console game that lead to a load of my mums camping gear being smashed up in a rage due to trying to beat a the facility level in a certain time:

For the record - i did beat that poxy level...
Thankfully most of the game rage has dissipated these days. Mostly.

Re: Gaming moments of our childhoods
Well. I can probably sum this up into about 10 different sections... Might have to do a full blog about it :D So I'll just stick to key moments.
My first two EVER gaming memories. Provided by my uncle bring over his Sega Mega Drive. (Sidenote: did anyone else ever get irked when people used to refer to Mega Drive's, Master System's etc as "the Sega", e.g. "Just played a game of Alex da Kidd on da Sega bro it was sick bruv"? I was pretty pedantic about it from an early age!)
Sonic 1 (50hz!)

Space Harrier 2

The hardest game I ever played during the 16bit era but probably the most iconic; Flashback. Still love the music to this day, and still very playable.

Firing up the PS1 for the first time, and being astounded by the graphics, intro videos and high quality music of Tomb Raider 2 and Final Fantasy 7. Tomb Raider specifically for the moment the Tiger came out of the shadows, and then making it to Venice.

The "Jill Sandwich" incident. Brilliant voice acting.

Finding Meryl in her pants.

There are many more, will definitely have to do a blog on this

Re: Gaming moments of our childhoods
First Terran cinematic in Starcraft. I was very excite.
"It's a zergling, Lester. A smaller type a' zerg. But they ain't be this far out unless.."

Playing my first JRPG on the Mega Drive. I think I did quite well at the time, but I think I'd be useless these days.
Such happy music!

Shinobi on the Master System, possibly one of my first games on my first console.

Zelda on the Game and Watch. Old school as heck.
Having just seen the ending here I'm glad I never completed it.

F22-Interceptor, 1991. This game. That music. Beautiful.

Re: Gaming moments of our childhoods
Cue wall of old games!
What, I haven't named them? You have to guess them, then.

Re: Gaming moments of our childhoods
Ooh! Old games. I think I played about half of those.
IK+
Uridium?
-
Trap Door
-
-
-
Spy Vs Spy
Space Crusade
Sabre Wulf
-
Llamatron?
-
-
-
Jet Set Willy
Bruce Lee
-
Cauldron
-
The Last Ninja
Stunt Car Racer
-
Mission Impossible
Beach Head (2?)
-
-
-
I could put together an entirely different wall o' games, but I'll stick to moments of gaming eureka;
First speech I heard in a game:
First arcade I was in awe of:
First game I played obsessively (also first game I had a custom soundtrack to by playing Michael Jackson's Bad through the built in tape deck of my Spectrum 128+):
First multiplayer game:
First game I played so much I dreamt about:
First game I had to upgrade my system for:
First strategy game:
First really violent game:
First game I stayed up way too late playing (also possibly first sandbox):

Hunter is an excellent game. Think I've possibly got a boxed up copy in my cupboard still, certainly got one in the family.Dog Pants wrote:First game I stayed up way too late playing (also possibly first sandbox):

Re: Gaming moments of our childhoods
I have some fond memories of playing Papyrus' IndyCar Racing. We had a flight yoke thing that could basically work like a steering wheel, so as a 9 year old I had so much fun driving around tracks.

Oh! It was the first beat-em-up I ever played. I recognise the Yin-yang health bars. Way of the Exploding Fist.FatherJack wrote:Dog Pants wrote:IK+ no

That's the one! First one I played too and I thought it was IK years after, but then I remembered the Yin-yangs. I was kicking people in the shins for months after getting it.Dog Pants wrote:Oh! Re: Gaming moments of our childhoods
Some good games in there!
FT - Do I spy an Ant Attack, and the football manager game with the bloke with a perm on the front - Kevin something was his name... Maybe a Daley Thompson game as well? And I am sure that is Atic Atac.
Did anyone have the first consoles? Binatone / Atari / Intellivision type things on here?
