SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
I was reading a news post...er...somewhere, and something in the comments thread amused me. Someone had managed to show that Aliens takes place in the Star Trek Universe. The logic goes like this: Weyland Yutani is referenced at one point in Angel. Angel also references Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems. Yoyodyne propulsion systems are the contractors that built the engines on the Enterprise. Therefore Aliens takes place in the Buffyverse, which takes place in the Star Trek Universe, so Aliens also takes place in the Star Trek universe.
But it doesn't end there! Me and Pants discussed it, and realised that Weyland Yutani is also referenced in Firefly, and there is a Firefly class ship briefly shown in a shot in Battlestar Galactica, so you can add Firefly and BSG to the list of things that all share the same universe! And Promethius (which is in the Aliens universe) makes a direct reference to Blade Runner, Batman once had a crossover with the AvP franchise, and Batman also had a crossover with Judge Dredd once.
I'm beginning to think that it might be possible to link all sci-fi ever into one giant extended universe of extremely wobbly cannonicity. Which Pants suggested we should turn into a game. SO! RULES!
1) The aim is to link anything you can think of into the Massive Extended Universe, from now on to be known as the Spamverse (Doggers came up with it).
2) The links can be as stupid as you like as long as...
3) Its something official and published (ie, not fan created.) Doesn't matter if it isn't officially cannon, as long as it is a proper product that was put on sale by whoever owned the rights to the franchise at the time.
4) It can be in any medium, as long as it has some element of story to it. Film, TV, comic, novel, game, whatever. Simply having a picture that has two franchises on it doesn't count by itself though.
5) Cameos are fine, as long is it is either confirmed or really, really obvious.
6) It doesn't have to be Sci-Fi

You can throw in X-men.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek/X-Men - tldr - x-men travel through space rift, spock fights wolverine.
Another comic sees X-men meeting Picard et al.
And throw in Doctor Who as well -

And Whedon has made a 'much ado about nothing' film with Nathan Fillion. So maybe they've squeezed some firefly in there. But I can't confirm Shakespeare in space from that angle. Although Picard certainly likes a bit of the bard too.
Re: SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
I have to confess that Joose came up with all the links in our conversation, and I just extrapolated silly combinations of vampire predators. However I'm sure I must be able to get Terminator in there.

Re: SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
Well Skynet is the UK version of the Star Wars global defence network (sort of).
There is also a terminator vs robocop comic AND a superman vs skynet/terminator crossover comic where he battles cyborg and terminators.

Re: SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
Skynet's the commsat network, nothing to do with Star Wars. But hasn't there been a superman/batman crossover? That links them all in and adds Robocop.

Re: SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
Not so much a crossover, as them just straight up being in the same universe. Like Thor/Iron Man/Captain America etc are for Marvel. But yeah, getting any of the Marvel/DC characters in there creates a whooole bunch of tie in opportunities.Dog Pants wrote:But hasn't there been a superman/batman crossover?
EDIT: Oh, and I actually mentioned the Star Trek/Who crossover to Pants, just forgot to put it in the first post. Ive actually read it. Its mind bogglingly shit.

Also, the actress that plays a vampire called harmony in buffy also plays a vampire in supernatural. So there's another series tied in.

Re: SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
I dont think you are quite getting the concept pete. Its specifically "in universe" links, the kind of shit that the supernerds argue about whether its cannon or not. Otherwise we could just go to IMDB and do the lot in one goHereComesPete wrote:Also, the actress that plays a vampire called harmony in buffy also plays a vampire in supernatural. Re: SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
I'll admit that one is a bit of a stretch, but as they never say her name in supernatural and she's a dumb blonde in that too then the evidence leads toward it being the same vampire character in both universes.Joose wrote:I dont think you are quite getting the concept pete. INCORRECTO! Her name in Supernatural is Lucy. HA!HereComesPete wrote:they never say her name in supernatural and she's a dumb blonde in that too then the evidence leads toward it being the same vampire character in both universes.
Re: SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
If you count the cast of Frasier in this Star Trek: Voyager skit (it's horrible):

That puts Frasier in the Star Trek universe and with it Cheers. Plus some other US shows I haven't heard of, connected via Cheers.
And I'd like to say Chekov was in Babylon 5, but I can't.

Re: SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
Well, Roman posted that pic of deadpool shouting "steve holt!" so this means that either arrested development the show exists within the marvel universe, Steve Holt exists within the marvel universe, or that the marvel universe is within our own universe.

Then again, it's marvel so it's probably all of the above.

Re: SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
In Back to the Future, Marty's pre-dad's bedroom has a picture of Darth Vader saying he's from the planet Vulcan. This puts Star Wars in the same universe as Star Trek. In both Voyager and DS9 there have been references to the Flux Capacitor which was invented by Doc Brown, so they must be in the same universe too. Also, R2-D2 is on the big spaceship in Close Encounters (albeit upside down), so that conclusively ties them together.
What we need now is someone to model this in a big spider chart thing, post it to the internet and harvest the nerd tears.

Re: SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
I believe E.T. is in Phantom Menace (In a floaty Senate pod thing)
And rumours of Indiana Jones in the Pod Race scene too but I've never seen anything to prove it.
Possible E.T./Indy/Star Wars inclusion

Although George Lucas must have harvested quite a few tears and he's not been killed.
Re: SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
We really do need a pretty chart for this.
Re: SPAMVERSE! The Extended Universe Game
Doctor Who had an adventure involving Shakespeare, who features in Jasper Ffords books a bit which pulls in the BookWorld http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BookWorld
(Does this count?)
