5punky Kickstarters

Post by Dog Pants »

After FJ's suggestion on the 5punk Needs You thread, a 5punky Kickstarter is where you can pledge your time and expertise to the desired site upgrades. We all want and love them, so you'll get all manner of bumhugs for stepping up. As said before, if you can't bring any technical skills to the table being 5punky and fun in-game, or organising or being involved in 5punky game 'events', is equally important.

To-do:
5cheduler
Discussion Board
Front Page (Berk contributed)
FP TS Widget (Pnut contributed)
Header TS Widget (Pnut contributed)
FP Blog
Review Database
Twitter feed
Steam integration (Prof contributed)

Content:
5punky Youtube content/editing
Social Media Whoring (Dog Pants)

Complete:
Avatards (Thanks FJ & Grimmie!)
Mod retasking (Thanks FJ again!)

Pledge away!

Oh, and for my part I have the following dubious skills which I will apply to any of the projects:

Badgering people
Admin access
Photoshoppery
Drinking copiously

sounds good. How are mods done at the moment, do we use anything like modx or automod? I'm new to modding phpbb, dunno the best way to do it at the moment.

I don't think so. The others are more knowledgeable than me, but it looks mostly vanilla.

I don't think I can help out with any of the technical stuff but I'm usually available for 5punky games/being a drunken tit on teamspeak.

By mods you mean modifcations, not moderators to clear up my own initial confusion. I don't think we have anything installed anymore - the (very) old board had a sort of easy-install thing, which is how all the arcade games and the currency (5perm) worked, but we haven't put any of that back, choosing to keep it simple to smooth the upgrade path and to guard against hacks from insecure plugins. I'm not averse to anything that will make adding stuff easier, but we will have to test it thoroughly and read up on the experiences of people already using them for security issues.

yep sorry I did mean modifications.
Ok, yeah keeping it simple and secure makes sense. I have installed a copy of phpbb3 on one of my servers to play with. Will see what i can brew on that before needing any 3rd party installers

I was just looking at replicating the existing installation on my hosting, will let you know how I get on with that. The one we used before was 'easymod' - there are still some tables for it in the database, but I don't think it's active anymore. If anyone want copies of the files/database I will put them in my Dropbox and arrange access as required.

I'll do some lets play with 5punk stuff if we need more for the yootoob channel.

I'll add to the usual comedy gold on TS. Possibly we should just turn record on as soon as it hits Friday night.

I'll clean some threads and things. This I will have to pledge to with a months delay, it just went bastard crazy in work and I'm falling asleep pretty much as soon as I get in.

Right, I'll pledge myself to the social media thing. I'm currently setting up a Twitter account and I'll delegate more people to the Facebook account if I can (although I don't know what to do with that).

Well, my mate got a phonecall about our internet so hopefully we'll be hooked up this week. When that happens I'll be able to do more with fraps again. I enjoyed our the heist game yesterday, maybe we could do something with that again this Friday? It's shorter than a session of beef or similar and easier to cut up into bitesized films for the youtubes. Provided I learn how.

"Edit page" at the top, and "Admin roles". You can add people from your friends list, or by email.

I can do the illustrations, the webby stuff (namely html and CSS), the editing the video and the audio and the social media tomfoolery if need be. I use this as my social media yardstick.

Bit of an un-job, but I'm gonna set about replacing as many html tags with bb code as I can in posts (especially the bigger threads) so shit looks less crappy.

That was particularly painful for me. Think I recently re-did the beardy consolidation thread.

As far as I can see, there's only about 3000 instances of it (probably a few dupes through quoting) so it's not a massive job, something I can potter about at for a few weeks.

I haven't really spoken out on any of these topics as I don't have much to offer :( I have some basic HTML/CSS but it would be well under the skill level of others. The one thing I think I could do is the graphic design/layout, but I have no idea if what I would come up with could easily be used with the current/future website features. I also don't have any knowledge of designing and scripting with others in mind, so while it might be clean and basic, others might not find it easy to work with. Might play around in Fireworks and see if I can mock up something for (non)approval.

Sounds like that would be handy for the front page and top bar. Putting the information on them is one thing, making it look good and uncluttered is entirely different.
