Among The Sleep
A horror game where you play a two year old child, due for release next year. A brilliant idea, and my word is it creepy.

Blimey, it looks like Amnesia: The Early Years...
Very interesting concept though. I don't think i've seen a game play from a baby's perspective since Rugrats.

Horror games and horror in general do not scare me. Won't Play.

I'm pretty sure the point isn't to scare you anyway. Most people aren't scared of them.

Gah, fuck that shit. I'll probably get that and play it with the lights on, I'm not afraid to say that games like this scare the fuck out of me but I find that it's that feeling of terror in the throat that compels me to continue.

Re: Among The Sleep
Did you play amnesia pants? Did you?!
I think I would rather have some extreme real life situation to deal with than some pretendy powerless run away and hide computer game to play. I hate the fact that you can't even think about trying to hurt the fucking things that walk round.

Re: Among The Sleep
Amnesia wasn't scary. It was bloody annoying though. Stay in the light, you get eaten. Hide in the dark, you go mental.
Re: Among The Sleep
Normally that would freak me out slightly, but as the owner of a 2 year old that adds a whole new layer of headfuckery. Do not like (but in a 'I would like to play this kind of way')

The start of Fallout 3. I loved that bit, but I wanted to take Teddy with me into adulthood.Legoshoes wrote:I don't think i've seen a game play from a baby's perspective since Rugrats.

Re: Among The Sleep
In AvP2 you played a facehugger then a chest burster. Does that count?

Re: Among The Sleep
I think you have to allow yourself to be scared, that's what I do anyway, at least when no-one is watching. It's much more fun that way, I have a few drinks and get myself in a state of mind where I'm jumping at shadows - I find it enhances the experience. Of course I'm not actually scared. Obviously.Thompy wrote:Horror games and horror in general do not scare me.

Re: Among The Sleep
I think for me, it's all down to how the horror is presented. Jumpy type scare horror isn't actually scary.
Anticipation type horrors that manage to convey a feeling of dread do tend to make my brown star twitch a bit.

Re: Among The Sleep
I find games scarier than movies if I'm honest, not entirely sure why that is, perhaps because the games are more immersive, and it's my actions making sure that I don't get killed. Plus, if it's FPS, then the scare is all up in my grill rather than far away on a cinema/TV screen!
That, and like Fab, having a two year old adds something to horror (or anything really) involving children.

Re: Among The Sleep
I backed this! Still looks interesting enough to have a punt on.
Re: Among The Sleep
They've released an alpha build to backers, which is an interesting tactic to do it before the KS has finished. I've not played it long because I don't want to play it in a well lit room with the TV blaring, but the 2-year-old perspective does add a creepy element to the standard dark-with-creepy-noises horror environment.

Re: Among The Sleep
Beyond: Two Souls has some similarly creepy moments when you're playing the main character when she's a little girl. It's oddly kinda normal for the protagonist, but very creepy for the player.
