Lagging ta feck

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Lagging ta feck

Post by Soonarmar »

Okay so as a follow up to my whole "computer wont turn on" issue the other day, I've finally managed to piece it all back together
HOWEVER.
Now I can't get games to run.
well, not exactly "can't get them to run", so much as "Skyrim lags like shit on Lowest settings possible when, before my reformat, it would run smoothly on Ultra settings"
It's not just Skyrim either, L.A. Noire is nigh-on unplayable
but I tried COD4 and that runs smooth as ice cream
I've made literally no changes to my PC other than a new PSU, case and motherboard
What the hell is going on why does my PC hate me

Specs:
GPU: ASUS HD6870 1GB GDDR5
Mobo: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 SKT-AM3+ Motherboard
RAM: CORSAIR 4X2GB DDR3 CMX4GX3M2A160
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4Ghz
SSD: OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SATA II 3.5-inch Solid State Drive

One suspects that if your PSU went, it might have done damage to other bits and bobs in your case.
Berk will be along shortly asking you to run Memcheck.

Yeah I'm thinking it might be a RAM issue.
...Fine excuse for an upgrade! :-D

Hoping CPU/GPU are fine as I want to wait for Sandy Bridge and the 7XXX series so I can upgrade then. B-)

Updated drivers from Gigabyte website, latest AMD drivers, yep. Have I overlooked something? I recall once forgetting to get network drivers and wondering why my ethernet port didnt work, so it wouldnt surprise me if I've made a whoopsy again :P

Another thought: go to the system info page (right click my computer > properties)

Under the ram does it say...

Installed memory (RAM): x.xGB

or

Installed memory (RAM): x.xGB (y.y available)

?

It says "Installed memory (RAM): 8.00GB" :3

I shall go re-install my drivers now. Wish me luck!

If you're not using onboard sound, is it turned off in the BIOS?
