Everything Broke!

Post by Anery »

Today is truly a shit day, and I havn't even started work yet. So far; TF2 is full of dickhead who are completely clueless as to what they should be doing AND the item server is offline so no custom loadouts, twitter is borked so I can't whine about said TF2 idiots, Minecraft server is offline and so is the ClanForge server. I hate to think what I am going to walk into when I get to work :(

How's your Fridays?

I've spent 5 of my 7 working hours on my own, out of a normal team of 6. Normally that would have frustrated and enraged me, but since I'm on leave for a week I let it all flow over me safe in the knowledge that come 3:00 it was all someone else's problem.

In other news, I have a week of gaming and writing.. erm stuff... ahead. Not sure what I'm writing, but I feel it should be something.

I had that problem, so I went to play League of Legends. Which was annoying because people kept quiting and making the games impossible to win, 3 defeats. :(

I'm (bi) curious about... nope, can't even bring myself to write it as a game acronym. League of Legends. I'd give a 5punky game a go, but I never ever want to play it with randoms. Unless I turn out to be godlike at it and leave a trail of wailing smacktalkers crying in my wake. Which is unlikely.

League of Legends would probably be good with people who are relaxed about it. But I've not come across too many super serious randoms in the games I've played (beginner PvE). Only been called a "n00b" once in around 12 matches. Occasionally you get someone who is really good and for some reason playing on a beginner game. Perhaps not that good.

Anyway the game is free (with a store to spend game points or real money) and has a tutorial. Which you should definitely play until you beat the AI enemy team at least once. The overall game concept is pretty simple, but there's depth in the many champions you take control of and their different abilities and other stuff. We could probably do with a thread about these games as Valve's DOTA2 is coming and that'll probably be big.

I've been eyeing LULZ with a mix of interest and suspicion for a while, I would quite like a 5punky go at it.

I played this and couldn't get past the tutorial. I suck at it that much.

I can't remember how well the tutorial explains the basic concepts and tactics, which are essential to understand. It took me a few goes to win the tutorial maps.

Well, in retrospect spending several minutes at a time AFK probably didn't help. And coming back to find messages saying "if you'd done that in a real game we'd have suspended your account" didn't endear me to it.

But not people who have a demanding wife and three year old. I tried it again this morning, saw something that said "normally you'd be on a time limit for this", and quit again. I don't think I'll be getting on with this game, it's just not for me.

To be fair, its not really designed to be played by people who cant give it their full attention. If you are in a multiplayer game, and someone keeps disappearing for several minutes at a time, the fact that they have a valid reason for doing so doesn't make it any less irritating to the rest of the players.

I've only given the game a brief go so far, but I'm really rather enjoying it. I may be missing something, but it doesn't seem half as complicated as it is often made out to be.

I realise that I'm just not in a position to enjoy it. Doesn't make it a bad game, just not one I could play.

Yeah, if you can't commit 30-45 mins of your time for a whole match, uninterrupted, you shouldn't play. It's not fair on your team mates.

If you watch the champion spotlight videos they sure make it sound super complicated, they're mind boggling to me. And to be fair there's a lot of subtleties if you take into account the variety of abilities for each champion and the tactics that can be used with them, the general powers, runes and the masteries. There's also getting the most out of jungling, which I've not really touched yet. But you can easily play without mastering all that crap.
