42! That's a scientific number right there. Nice to see they had a deep pool of people to get statistics from. The Metro wrote:A study of 42 gamers
Again, this is all to do with the person, not the media. Violent movies and sharp knives do not a killer make.
Re: Two Minutes Hate
FUCK OFF, we are never going to hear the real reason why he did it. My bet is they pushed someone a little bit too far, I reckon the CPO or PO were the real targets and daft officer cupcake got in the way. Some Daily Mail Tosser Who Has Sold His Soul To The Devil wrote:Obsessed: Seaman Ryan Donovan killed an officer on a submarine after acting out scenes from violent game Grand Theft Auto

Global Warming! It's gamers!
Crops Fail In Etheopia! It's gamers!
Man bites a fucking dog! It's gamers!
I consider people who don't play games a menace to society, games are a healthy part of the human condition.
Pants you are a cupcake, I will be ranting about this for fucking hours now

Re: Two Minutes Hate
‘Violent solutions to real life conflicts appeared to be used by few of the players, at least in their imaginations’ says the study. As always the media focus on the negative, rather than the positive effects of lots of gaming - such as the very real stat-boosts to things like hand-eye coordination and killing hookers.

I think we are looking at this all wrong. We should be embracing their stupid prejudices, and using their attacks against them, ju-jitsu style.
Yes, Daily Mail and chums, video games are creating a generation of mindless, highly trained killing machines. Fear them! And do as we say, or we will announce that the first person to bring us your head on a spike gets early beta access to the next Blizzard MMO!

Re: Two Minutes Hate
Sadly, the media's approach to vidja games is never going to change until the next scapegoat comes along. It was all the fault of video nasties before, but something better arrived in grumble vids. Now grumble vids aren't as shocking (likely owing to Hollywood and MTV selling sex and image like it's going out of fashion), its all about the games.
What bothers me most, however, is people completely unprepared to entertain the possibility that games might be a viable form of entertainment media. This is all in spite of the games industry being worth at least as much as if not more than the movie industry.
In short, fuck the popular media and public opinion, people are idiots.

Re: Two Minutes Hate
What is a grumble vid?
Re: Two Minutes Hate
Adult entertainment style moving picture, often used to aid a gentleman's "special relaxation" time.
Re: Two Minutes Hate
I suppose that'd be pr0nz, perhaps the most nasty stuff like Animal Farm. Personally I've only heard "grumble" used in "grumble mags" = pr0n mags.Mr. Johnson wrote:What is a grumble vid?

I see. I didn't really want to see it, but thanks.

Obligatory go away and eat cheese moment.
Re: Two Minutes Hate
The more I think about it the more I like the name 'two minutes hate' as a blog about poor, sensationalist reporting. It's nice and ironic. Where's Roman when you need him?

I spent a week in the Lakes, isolated from large groups of people and exposure to the media. It was so relaxing.Dog Pants wrote:Where's Roman when you need him?
I returned and read this, and now I wish pain and misery upon large sections of our species - but that's probably just the vidya games talking.
