Merchandising

Post by Dog Pants »

Inspired by Mr Johnson's quite awesome Mass Effect hoodie, I've decided to go hunting for other cool mechandise. I've not bought a lot, but I always like to see it done well - I have a Left4Dead t-shirt which is subtle enough for public wear without looking abjectly nerdy, and I bought myself and Anery complimentary Aperture Labs/Black Mesa mugs which are quite cool.

So what stuff do you have or want?

Well, I now know I want one of those Black Mesa mugs. I've also pondered the Eve Skull t-shirt.

There's always LastExitToNowhere as well, which has a number of things that catch my eye.

Ooh, I like the Guristas t-shirt. I've always loved that logo. Last Exit to Nowhere is great to look around, but the stuff in there is either so obscure that nobody would ever get it, or very obvious and nerdy. Not a criticism per-se, I can't think of how I'd improve it, but there's only a couple of things I'd buy from there (an Amity Island PD hoodie being my favourite). Funny actually how I prefer how hoodies look in many cases, even though I never wear them.

Oh, and while browsing about I noticed a plain black shirt with the Aperture Labs logo above the pocket. I do like that, again understated enough for people who don't know what it is to not notice, but obvious enough for those who do to appreciate.

Me too, I havent played EVE in a long time but I'm always tempted to have a skull with bunny ears on my chest. I want the ME2 shirt too, but damn merchandise is always so expensive.

The t-shirts on Last Exit are a bit expensive. That hasn't stopped me in the past but they're only okay quality so I've stopped looking at the site and avoided temptation. Plus I should probably be more of an adult these days.

I'm tempted by those mugs. How big are they? The ones I buy from supermarkets, etc. always end up smaller than I'd prefer. I want man-sized teas and coffees.

They're a pretty good size, certainly bigger than your common or Garden mug. I'd guestimate about three quarters of a pint.

Both great t-shirts without overdoing the geek side.

I'd believe that for the first one if it didn't have that damn phrase on it. Just the cake symbol alone would actually make a good shirt.

That second one is great though

I've wanted one of those Aperture science mugs and the toilet slinging t-shirt since forever but was put off by the delivery costs.

How much did you pay Pants/KV?

I can't remember the exact amounts but I remember it being somewhat expensive, but not prohibitively. However, I did get stung for import tax on them. They may be able to ship from the UK now though.

this thread made me order that EVE guristas t-shirt. I blame you all if it gets lost in post/I get slapped with customs charges.

I found a UK supplier, and I think both t-shirts were around the £15 mark.

Jinx do some really nice looking t-shirts, and have a UK depot which is handy (that's where I found the portal one)

I have a metric shit ton of merchandise, I think I saved several companies from bankruptcy simply by buying their crap.
I have:
-Action figures;
- A Sheva doll action figure from resident evil 5, comes with crazy detailed guns and movable breasts for some reason. The missus finds this a constant source of scorn.
- A vault-boy bobble head that comes with the collector's edition of fallout 3.
- A naked snake action figure from MGS3
- Other stuff related to films such as the car from mad max and Ash from army of darkness figures
-Posters
-All four L4D posters, despite poorly designed (Zoey's triple handedness being only one example)
-A Monkey Island 2 poster, but it's too big to hang anywhere so it's staying in the tube for now
-A pretty cool Flash Gordon poster from the 80's that doesn't fit in any frames that I own. The hours when they played the film are still attached to the poster with glue which I can't remove without damaging the poster.
-A Brütal Legend poster which Grimmie and Stoat probably saw as it's the first thing I see when I wake up. It is an ESSENTIAL part of my day as my goal is to be as awesome as that poster is.

What I have the most of though, is clothes. T-shirts, to be more exact.
-A Brütal Legend shirt. It's not particularly pretty but it shows my undulating love for double fine.
-A Psychonauts shirt, which Mrs. Johnson refers to as my "girl shirt", because there's a picture of a girl on it. Everybody thinks it's an Emily the strange shirt though, which makes me sad.
-A L4D shirt with the survivors on it, seems to have dissapeared from the store.
-Four team fortress shirt: -a 'The heavy' shirt
-The old 'The Spy' shirt
-The old 'The Pyro' shirt
-The new sniper shirt, featuring jarate
- A far cry 2 shirt that came with the collector's edition, but it's of such low quality that I use it as a work shirt.
- A HL2 shirt that also came with the collector's edition of the game, it's a bit worn now so I use it as a working shirt as well. Other people seem to like that one though.
- A portal shirt, the very first ugly one. work shirt.
- An old Metal Gear Solid shirt, it's pretty obscure though. Bill Bailey wears it in Spaced.
- A super old Jurassic Park shirt, my mom and dad got it at the premiere of the film, and even though it was way too big for me I still wore it. I'm still wearing it today.
- a couple more that I can't remember
I even buy nerdy shirts for my girlfriend, who has no idea what they're about but seems happy enough to receive free shirts.

Other stuff:
- Portal and Psychonauts Christmas cards. I don't have a lot of friends so I have no idea whatsoever as to why I bought them, but if you want one, shout out and I'll send you one.
-car stickers and a black mesa parking permit. I don't have a car, but it didn't stop me from buying them.
- A Brütal Legend zippo lighter. I don't smoke, instead I use it to light my forge.
- The original boxed amiga editions of monkey island 1 & 2. I can't play them as it's for amiga computers, so nerds everywhere will be at my door waiting for me so they can yell how stupid I am. And throw three-buttoned mice at my face.
- A portal weighted companion cube plushie. ♥
- lots more stuff that's probably in boxes or that I've completely forgotten about.
