MMONG

Post by Sledra »

Now i've been playing City of Heores at the moment and i'm loving it, but now im getting a thirst for the traditional old school MMONG with tradeskills, crafting ect, but don't want to have to pay for it.

This is where you gentlemen come in. I need ideas for free MMORPGs that include the basics of the genre. They can be futuristic or archaic, just aslong as they have the basics and are free.

That is all.

I tried to play one called Planeshift, downloaded all ok but it kept crashing when updating to latest version, didnt have the patience to work it out, by all accounts good if you can get it running, (and free)

It looks ok, but the website seems to have a lot of holes and problems within it, and if the easy to produce website is like that, i hate to think what could be wrong with the actual game engine.

Cheers for that one Bobbins, any other ideas people?

Anarchy online is free, and i believe it has crafting. bit pap though, if you ask me.

EQ2 has an offer on at the moment for a years free, but you cant leave noob island and you need to have a fileplanet account to signup.

other than that, you could allways do what i do, check around for beta tests. They are free, so long as you can put up with the occasional glitches. MMONG.com is a good place to look for them.

or, ive just found this: http://www.onrpg.com/. All teh freeness!

you could always try www.runescape.com

there's a free version and a pay for version

I used to play this loads a few years back, but it is a wee bit dated and simple... but you may as well try it

It's guildwards going to be something like that? It doesn't come out until may, but I thought I'd toss that out there...

Talk of free gaming reminded me of a good section on free games in last months "insert name of PC magazine here"

so here it is!

You realise City of Villains is coming out soon, Sledra? It's going to have Superhero bases (think Guild Halls) and should have facilities to make your own enhancements.

Alternatively, keep an eye on Lothgar.com and devoroclassik.com ; both of which are looking promising.

oh I forgot about Kingdom of Loathing. I was seriously fucking hooked on that for about 3 months. Nothing better than drinking 30 white canadiens to get a trophy...

Thanks for the fabulous contribution to the thread!

City of Heroes is £8 a month, City of Villians will be included in this price so you won't have to pay extra.

It's a decent price, but I can see it sucking my life away...

I agree, it would have done the same to me. Unfortunately just after I got it I came down with food poisoning, and it was all I could play whilst feeling incredibly rough. However, playing it now i'm better makes me feel naseous; i.e all the feelings I had when playing it when ill. Really fucking wierd. Cracking game though.
