My idea about how to own an incoming fleet

Post by bomberesque »

From what Hehulk said earlier and after some ISS forum discussion today (can you tell I’m bored at work :P )

This is based on my observation of how ISS snipe/support gate camps work and the assumption that the enemy has eyes on you.

1. Set up exactly the same as normal; support on the gate, BSs revolving round snipe spots regularly. Probably no bubble though, as may become clear.
2. In the sniper gang are 8 BS fitted for ECM burst and Smart bombs. These ships are aligned towards the gate and webbing each other so that they are at instawarp speed of around 10mps. Frigs could also do the webbing if fittings did not allow the BSs to carry them
3. Obviously you have cov-ops eyes on the incoming fleet
4. If the incoming is a small group, SOP, snipe and support as normal. The fleets will probe to see what you’ve got
5. When the main fleet jump in gate will fire and local will spike
6. Support jump out to a 300km point then back into optimal. Support should be fitted for around 30-40km opt.
7. At the same time, Smartie BSs instawarp to prelaid points in a 12km sphere around the gate.
8. Smarties and ecms go off
9. Support kills support (what’s left of it and EW BSs)
10. BS snipers go for primary

Smartie BSs could also be just off grid, as long as ship types were represented in the sniping gang and the numbers aren’t such that it’s obvious that there’s a bunch of BSs missing from the snipe gang comparing grid to scanner. Any further away, it’ll take to long to warp in, I guess.

Comments? I posted it here on the offchance that it's good enough to use it would absolutely rely on the enemy not nkowing what was going on, but I've PMd iot to hulk for his input aswell

My main concern would be getting the timing right and whether it’s worth it to give up the power of 8 sniping BSs to a risky tactic like this. Plus the exact SB fit would need some work as I know that SBs are waaay heavy on cap.

Also no place for fighters, I think, at least until the smarties stop going off.

The thing is, a mix of lag when a fleet jumps in mixed with getting the co-ordination right, so many things can go wrong with complex plans.

this is my main concern, get the timing wrong and you end up owning your own support

cue laughter from the incoming smaktards

Had some input from Hehulk, who thinks that teh whole sneaky bit is unnecessary so;

The only reason for the complexity was to hide the tactic from the enemy cov-ops so that they couldn't arrange a counter. However, it would probably result in a bunch of lag followed by owning my own support group, which would be embarrassing

So instead (simpler but open version)

8 SB/ECM Burst BSs (the bursts were J Lyrus's idea btw) at 12km spread around teh gate. Cheap and disposable as you can make them
Support fitted for 40k opt and out orbiting at their opt
Snipers

Roger wilco boss :boogie:

without the nifty sneaky ender wiggins stylee BS warpin, it's a pretty plain set-up and is being discussed in fragments on the ISS forum at the moment. All I've really done is put the ideas from a few different posts together with what Hehulk mentioned. That said, it ought to be relatively lag proof though as, even if the grid lags the way it did in zxic the other night, the SBs and bursts shuold continue to go off regardless, buying time for the grid to clear.
