Daemontools 'spyware'
just d/led the new version of daemontools for my lappy, and have discovered that it now comes with an advert generator type of thing. just wondering what other programs there are that do a similarjob, or if anyone knows of a way to kill that particular bit without disabling daemontools

This has been bugging me for a while, I always liked Daemontools until they destroyed it like this.
I found an FLOSS version, but didn't tag/bookmark/favorite it sensibly and haven't found it again.
However there is a free, 60kb Microsoft version!
Only .iso's btw... not quite as flexible as Daemon.
If anyone finds the free/open source one I'm thinking about, then please shout loudly.

THIS TOOL IS UNSUPPORTED BY MICROSOFT PRODUCT SUPPORT SERVICES
System Requirements
===================
- Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional
Installation instructions
=========================
1. Copy VCdRom.sys to your %systemroot%\system32\drivers folder.
2. Execute VCdControlTool.exe
3. Click "Driver control"
4. If the "Install Driver" button is available, click it. Navigate to the %systemroot%\system32\drivers folder, select VCdRom.sys, and click Open.
5. Click "Start"
6. Click OK
7. Click "Add Drive" to add a drive to the drive list. Ensure that the drive added is not a local drive. If it is, continue to click "Add Drive" until an unused drive letter is available.
8. Select an unused drive letter from the drive list and click "Mount".
9. Navigate to the image file, select it, and click "OK". UNC naming conventions should not be used, however mapped network drives should be OK.
You may now use the drive letter as if it were a local CD-ROM device. When you are finished you may unmount, stop, and remove the driver from memory using the driver control.
If anyone finds the free/open source one I'm thinking about, then please shout loudly.

That, although I actually use Daemon Tools 3.47 as it does everything I need it to.Dr. kitteny berk wrote:To be honest, for most people here I'd suggest reading the fucking installer while you're installing daemon tools, it's the best there is and v4 can hide from most protection stuff currently.
Virtual CloneDrive is also free, and works pretty well (although it doesn't have any of the spiffy emulation stuff that Daemon Tools does). However, one thing it does have that I love (and the reason I have it installed on my desktop even though I use Daemon Tools) is that it puts a "Close Tray" option in the CD drive context menu.
