If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

While sweeping the floor I often come accross video files that are a few mb too big to fit on a CD which is rather annoying.
Does anyone know of a good freeware VCD creation program that will recompress video files and burn them to VCDs playable on a dvd player?
I've had a look but they all seem to be badly made or shareware =/

VCDs! geez that takes me back
if you want to recode, then i think vdubmod is decent. But i also think the newer versions of Nero will do video stuff like that

I have nero 6 which refuses to resize the video file, didnt realise there was a nero 7 now, i'll have a look at that.

Could I ask why you don't use a DVD burner? They are getting mighty cheap nowadays. Might save you hassle if you're going to do it more often.

I have a DVD burner but I have far more blank CDs than I do DVDs and it seems a waste burning a file to a DVD thats just a few mb too big for a CD.
My problem seems to be solved now anyway, Nero 7 comes with a thing called nero vision which I used to cut off the credits and now its in the process of converting it to a VCD compatible file, thanks for the help

Or not. It made the file even bigger, I'll try TMPGEnc.

Pfffft. Try cutting out the storyline bits, you know the bits without any shagging.

TANGENT! SLIGHTLY!
I wish to 'back up' some of my DVD's onto my computer. Which is the best program (floorware preferably) to do this?
