CS:S Beta

Post by Dr. kitteny berk »

Steam wrote:Available immediately, Valve has launched an extensive update to Counter-Strike: Source, now in beta.

The update includes a host of new features and functionality developed in collaboration with Hidden Path Studios. These include 144 new achievements, a new domination and revenge system, player stats, and more.

This beta will run for a limited time, and once complete, the update will be deployed to all Counter-Strike: Source owners for free via Steam.

Server admins may download the dedicated server files via the HLDSUpdateTool using "-game cssbeta" in the command line.

Looks like it's on the orange box engine.

# New cinematic death camera
# New domination and revenge system
No, it's not TF.

Domination and Revenge system in CS:S, fucking terrible idea considering its realism slant.

STOP BEIN' SO ANGRY ABOUT THINGS!

An update for a years-old game is nice, I quite like the idea of a funky death-cam.

They don't seem to have changed the core game too much, the Deagle (which is, obviously all I tried) still pops heads at light speed from a zillion paces. It just slaps up banners saying "You done a Thing" when you, er..do things.

For me, CS has never sat anywhere near the zenith of the realism spectrum, being only one step closer than AHL. And that is why I like it.

It's going to sound odd, but my main gripe is that it's making CS no longer a pure action game.

The domination stuff makes it more arcady and less of a raw shooter.

It's odd and I'm partly basing it on the fact that it's been sucessful without it, but I honestly don't think the core stuff like that needed a change.

Better gfx and sound would be nice though.

To be honest, I reckon it's almost entirely a security update, TF2 has had a million patches recently, while CS:S has only had a few for really huge critical issues.

There's some extras in there that make it more in line with modern shooters, but nothing significant.
