I've been meaning to put up some Borderlands tweaking instructions all week, but I don't think I could have done it better than this thread on the Gearbox forums. Thanks to Mr Berry for pointing that out to us. Crucially, one of the commands in there allows you disable the voice-comms for the game, so you can use something more sensible. We've had no word back from 2K/Gearbox on whether there will be a patch for that stuff, but I guess we'll find out soon enough. If you are tweaking, don't forget to back up the relevant files before you start editing, as there might be some problems with loss of keybinds and such. The other issue is port forwarding, the instructions for which are in this thread. If you're having trouble hosting/connecting to co-op games then you probably need to get busy with that stuff.

Kind of useful, but I was expecting/would have preferred my performance tweaks. Unless something really bothers me in a game, like the strict inventory limitation in STALKER, I'm not going to mess with this stuff.

I might play with the mouse smoothing, see if that improves it at all; it didn't quite feel right when I tested it last night.
And it's always worth dumping intro movies.

Good point. That's one to do for definite. Batman had unskippable movies, but deleting worked in that case.

The intro move was the best part of the brief half-hour I played last night. Obviously not enough to discover very much about it, but it didn't grab me as anything more than a dull shooter. Shall see how it develops.

It is great. I was referring to the half a dozen startup logo animations, though.
Spoiler:
THE WAY IT'S MEANT TO BE PLAYED IS SITTING WATCHING ANIMATIONS HAMMERING ESCAPE

Not sure if the first post covers this too, but a problem I had was it not remembering the resolution. Found the settings in My Docs -> My Games -> Bordurrrrrlands -> WillowGame -> Config -> WilloEditorUserSettings.ini. Look for a line that specifies window position and change the width/height values to what you want. Apparently it doesn't like to save things

The PCG review said the starting area all felt a bit lacklustre, but once you get out of there the game improves massively.

I'm currently on my second play through now and can confirm that it is a very enjoyable game.

The only tweak I really wanted to use and it doesn't work. :(
Luckily the videos are short.

The small inventory was pissing me off a bit, had to keep trotting back miles to sell stuff.

in WillowGame.ini

Code: Select all

InventorySlotMax_Misc=12
is the default

What are you, some kind of loot vacuum? You get more than enough money throughout the game to not have to pick up and sell mundane loot.

Also careful if you're hosting a game using those ini tweaks, I read it applies the tweaks to any other player who joins and the changes persist for their characters

But picking up everything ever is the way it's meant to be played!

My inventory is at 30 now, you get to increase it by helping injured Claptraps.

Just found that out myself. Oddly enough, I've not really had a huge use for money. I picked up a scoped assault rifle from the deal of the day not long into the game and I've had it ever since. It's called the genocide something, and hundreds of skanks would agree. I do like how you get attached to these little named items.

I have one of each weapon type (so I still have something to shoot with when ammo runs out) not counting elemental types, three health kits and a spare shield with health regen. With the default of 12, there's scarcely enough room to even pick anything else up and try it, never mind hoard loads of loot.

My guns are poor and I use more ammo than I get back, so have to buy it. I buy what better guns there are - most drops are levels higher than me. Money's tight in my game.

I have like 14 different guns lol. Most of them I never use but I keep them around just in case. My favorites have been this blue shotgun called Lethal Death or something that has like 90-something accuracy and a high zoom so it's as good as a sniper rifle in most circumstances and a blue rocket launcher called the Colossal Devastator which does a lot of damage and corrosive damage as well.

Might just be that you've been unlucky with your drops then. I've only once had to switch from my assault rifle due to ammo, and that was at lvl12. Before that, killing mostly skanks, I was explodifying things with one shot (well, three - it seems to have a sort of double tap fire mode). Funny how random elements affect your game.
