Big ol' Bombshell for PC MW2

Post by Gunslinger42 »

Community manager fourzerotwo has dropped a bombshell on the PC community as he confirmed there will be NO dedicated servers, no mods, no server lists and matchmaking only for the PC version on Modern Warfare 2, a first for the Call of Duty series, a series known for its large modding community and high number of dedicated servers.
I'd held off pre-ordering MW2 due to losing interest in CoD4 and due to what I'd seen of MW2 looking like more of the same but with a few little additions like super cool throwing knives

But for me this pushes it into the will-never-buy category. If there's one thing I absolutely cannot stand it's matchmaking and laggy local hosted games.

Thats what I thought, but other than it being just downright stupid I can't see anything that says it is a wind up.

I can also think of a few reasons why they might seriously do this, primarily because no modding, no dedicated servers, no browser lists, etc would give them complete control and allow them to handle dlc the same way they do on the console, ie charging us all ten quid for an extra map.

I believe I'm right when I say that this is probably what's on every one of your minds:

WHAT THE MOTHERFUCKING HELL ARE YOU DOING INFINITY WARD?

Well either IW wants to test how little effort it takes to cut themselves off the PC market, or they went the extra mile to be a bigger troll than Falcon.

Edit #1: Typo.
Edit #2: Nope, it wasn't a typo.
Edit #3: Added edit notes :P

I've already had someone tell me they're cancelling theirs if this is 100% confirmed

Surely this is a lie?

I know Valve tried it with L4D (well, match making, still had dedicated servers) and ended up putting the server browser back in shortly after release, I seriously don't see IW doing something this stupid.

Yes, me :P

I'm going to start my own conspiracy here and say that they're purposely trying to ruin PC sales so that they can claim it's not profitable and then stop making COD games for PC.

And in which alternate universe did this happen if I may ask?

I was already refusing to buy it for being £35 when it should be £25, but now I'm extra refusing. Now they owe me money instead.

They wouldn't be the first to start (incorrectly) spouting off about PC gaming being "dying" or not profitable. Sabotaging themselves would be a truly cunning plan...

my lord

:above:

It was somewhere in the middle on my "if I have enough surplus money so that if I buy these I can still get drunk/afford other, greener stuff" list, now it's just high up it's own ass.

The podcast is a good listen. The horror, the sheer horror they experience is immense. It just doesn't make any sense. He sites Left4Dead as a good example and then implies he's only played the 360 version. Jesus.

I didn't have this on pre-order, but now I might pre-order it and cancel it the next day. Yeah! Power to the people!

Haha at the state of the MW2 forums. They're mass deleting the thousands-of-posts petition/complaint threads but the ones that are filled with embedded never gonna give you up are still going strong
