VERY VERY VERY GOOD on free for all/capture the flag. I went from having a bad game in titan mode to a wonderfully brilliant game in CTF.
I think this was due to the lack of a herded bunch of 5punk cats on the titan mode which meant i spent most of the game on my own with no backup.

Get it now people it will be very good when smaller maps are added and when the primary teething problems are gone, dont get me wrong BF2 still wins over all but this 2142 will be a very good change at times.

is beef2142 to beef2 what beef vietnam was to beef1942? i mean is it gonna be the one that a few people buy, and then it sinks without a trace? or is it the equivalent of beef3?

I'll probably get this after pay day. I liked the demo enough and there's about three 5punkers interested, so a following might appear.

I'm interested, but won;t be buying at the moment as BF2 is still fulfilling my needs, especially as I have the SF addon as well, and only played on it for about an hour.

Once I've got bored, and more time to play games, I will definitely be buying this.

BF2 lacks entirely due to the lack of game modes, hence why you have to be in the mood to play the game.
They are not likely to add any new game modes to BF2, otherwise not many people would buy BF2142.

Basically BF2142 is BF2 set in the future, with lots of new gametypes.

There's only one new gametype but it does have some very nice features, the titan mounted cannons instead of arty and the titan corridor fighting are good.

Although I was playing today and getting The Rage<small>TM</SMALL>. It's suffering from a couple of teething problems like BF2 only not as bad. And I seem to get some serious lagging when in a titan, anyone getting this as well?

may not be lag, may be rubber-banding like you get on some models in beef.

There was also an issue with the carriers in 1942 when they moved, acted very laggy.

Just curious, as I've stated my views before - but do those advertising hoardings get in the way? They look like you could hide an army behind them.

At the moment they don't look out of place, but then they don't have adverts on them yet.

My advice is do not buy this game, Titan mode is a lagfest and the game itself feels rushed and a typical EA profiteering job. It isn't fun to play, I haven't loaded it since playing it once with my clan a week or so ago, and I don't want to again if I can help it. And anyone who says it isn't bf2.142 is lieing.

The maps are ill conceived and very painful for infantry. There is no grass or any place to hide on most maps. Basically if you are not in a vehicle of some kind then you just wait to die and hope next time you spawn you can get in a vehicle. The "planes" are very poor and it seems they still cannot lock anything dispite over 100 years of R+D time. No skill in any vehicle, they've even reduced the bullet drop to make it point and click.

POE is a much better BF2 mod, and that is free!

I meant does the sheer bulk of them constrict your view, irrespective of what's displayed on them? Are they in places which would never be contested ground, or could they grant a tactical advantage in themselves?

In some places they are rather large and obvious, as billboards are in real-life. You couldn't really hide behind them as you can see under most and your feet/tracks would be showing. But I suppose they could be used for cover.

When you stand on a vehicle in BEEF (as opposed to sitting in one) and you sort of drag along with it by falling behind and then quickly catching up. I think. Titans could cause this because they're effectively massive (moving) vehicles.

I see what you mean. One of the little problems with 2142 is that when you die on a titan your body slides along the deck and usually through walls and obstacles, which doesn't usually matter that much unless someone is trying to revive you. :mrh?:

Righto just had a 2 hour game with Sandwich, Spoodie, Me and Ted as a first dip of the water into 2142 5punk squading. And i must say that it was a bloody good laugh. Lots of 'hes over there' and 'How the bloody hell did you get up there' as we played and explored the maps. As your expecting it plays almost identically to BF2 but with enough changes to make it fresh and a bit harder. Instead of 4/5 ammo and med packs like in BF2 you get 1, which means they need to be more tactically placed. Also as your squad kicks ass (we were like gods) you unlock different items such as Squad Leader Beacons and Armed sentry Drones to help out your squad.

As i said earlier in this specific 2142 topic i cant see 2142 taking over from normal BF2 for quite some time, however even with 4 5punkers squaded up it was a bloody good laugh and i highly recommend it to any BF2 veterans to get it.

Yeah it was good last night, much better than playing alone. Plus we weren't playing titan mode so we didn't get the problems associated with it.

The field upgrades are a nice touch.
