The makers of gunbound and pangya keep sending me emails of free games, so I'll post those later. Though of questionable quality, two I can think of straight off are Fly for Fun and Space Cowboy.

I was going to suggest War Rock but it's an open beta rather than a free game.

I'll add Gun Bound, and Americas Army as soon as I have downloaded/uploaded them.

Space Cowboy is already on the list, but as for Fly For Fun, I've never heard of that oen before, so I'll do some investigating.

Star Control 2 or The you're-Quan Masters (as the free version is called)

It's a space exploration game, combining adventure, basic action and resource management. The gameplay is fairly basic and very easy to pick up, you may not need to refer to the docs at all. The best part is the encounters with other space farers. I doubt the original had speech but it adds a lot to the atmosphere and shows the hidden depths of the game. It had me amused for quite a few hours last weekend and one Eve players might enjoy between 11:00 and 12:00GMT.

A word of warning if you do decide to try it, save often and not in the same save game. You can get killed or stuck quite easily.
