Future of teh sticky stuff

Post by Woo Elephant Yeah »

Okay, I thought I'd lay out a few ideas I have up my sleeve for 5punk....

1. Currently moving the website onto a different host with more space (thanks goes out to Stoat for providing the hsoting so far, and his work on the 5cheduler and discussion board etc... )
2. Add loads more games to the Arcade, something in the region of possibly 300 or so, maybe even more
3. Create a way of allowing registered users to upload/download files such as custom maps/mods/skins for games
4. Possibly start a maps/modding forum (allthough I'm not a 100% sure on this one yet, as I suppose the map/mod could just be posted in the relevant games forum)
5. Look into renting a 5punk game server for HL2/COD/UT2004 (as these are the ones that are played most) plus finding an appropriate way for funding the server costs
6. More image based competitions/battles related to gaming, as this is a good way of publicity for our site on b3ta etc...
7. Voice comms for use when gaming, allthough this may be provided if we get a gaming server
8. Looking into an easier way to add all of our Xfire user names, and possibly grouping them for different games (not sure on this one though)

These are just a number of things I plan to do, and they are kind of in the order I wish to do them in.

Let me know if you have any opinions about any of these ideas, even if you think some of them are rubbish

5punk is here to stay, and I plan on keeping it an active gaming community with it's main aim being to have a laugh!

all sounds funky.

with regards to 5, how much are we talking here? Could you set up some kind of "donation" thingy, so we could all chip in? Im sure theres enough of us now to spread the cost fairly painlessly.

As far as the servers go, you're probably looking at ~?30 a month for ones with decent player limits.

Also costs tend to lower if you buy for long periods of time, or have passworded servers (with non published passwords, but i'm sure we could work around that)

edit: also, i may be able to arrange a teamspeak server on the cheapish

'tall sounds very lovely. Perhaps for the donation thing we could have a meter, like the ones they have in hospitals; a "thermometer" type thing that fills up with red... virtual stuff. Basically with a target each month etc. Also, I'm interested in the mapping bit but it's not a massive factor. I like the download and upload feature too,

I know I'm still a newbie here (not a n00b) but I thought I'd contribute anyway.

I think another go at the Xfire / Xbox live profile sections is called for. I'm not sure why it didn't work last time, but I don't know why the arcade didn't work first time either, so it must be worth a go.

Hope the hosting move goes well. Sorry to see it go, really. Dunno what I'll do with all this bandwidth cluttering up the place...

You could always donate it to internet-businesses that fell victim to the tsunami. Or you could fill it full of pr0n.

Sorted! I really need to sort out my site and buy hosting. The only thing that costs me money is my domain.

I'll chip in what I can for a server. Granted my money isn't worth shit, so it won't do much good. ;)

Thanks for the feedback guys.

My new host is currently having a nightmare with DNS & nameservers etc...

All I want to do is be able to view the public_html files on my new host, before I transfer across the 5punk.co.uk domain name

They have assured me that this sort of thing doesn't happen a lot, and they have now changed their nameservers to resolve the problem :?:
I await there reply as I'm now completely confused by what was supposed to be a simple process

*pulls out hair in frustration*
