Windows 7 gave my PC insomnia

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Windows 7 gave my PC insomnia

I've never really liked Windows Fista - it had too many annoying habits and not enough good ones for me to bother with it. However, I was always envious of its Sleep mode - Hibernate in XP is fine, but Fista's Sleep is much better. I was therefore keen to use Sleep after installing the Windows 7 RC, but there was a problem.

To save anyone Googling, Run from the command line:

Code: Select all

powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
This will gave you a list of devices that can wake the computer from sleep.

Code: Select all

powercfg -lastwake
This will tell you what made the computer wake up last.

Use this information wisely in Device Manager.

The advantages over Fista still outweigh the disadvantages.

Meh: European commission almost fucks things up for us some more. The only effect all this legislation against Microsoft is having on me is to respect Microsoft a little. Can't ship with IE? We'll ship with IE, FF, Chrome, Safari and Opera and let people choose. Won't let people upgrade? We'll just sell people with Fista licenses W7 at the same price as an upgrade. Well done Microsoft for turning something shit around - with the reduced price of a Win 7 install now they're more likely to sell. Personally I'm content to pay £150 for the multi-user home edition so I can legally install it on any machine I own.
